Top Gear's Executive Producer Andy Wilman has already shared his thoughts (http://wot.motortrend.com/6255618/miscellaneous/what-it-takes-to-make-americas-top-gear-successful/index.html) that the success of an American Top Gear will depend on the chemistry of the three hosts. Well, NBC and BBC America have announced the three hosts for the pilot Top Gear in the U.S.: former The Man Show host Adam Carolla, drift racer and SuperCars Exposed TV show host Tanner Foust, and host of HGTV's Over Your Head, Eric Stromer.
Where did Stromer come from? Besides Stromer's show on HGTV, show producers may have heard him on Carolla's Los Angeles-based nationally-syndicated radio show, giving construction advice. While Adam Carolla owns "collectible" Italian exotics and an Audi S4, Foust prefers to drive a customized BMW M3, and Stromer drives a Toyota Camry Hybrid (http://wot.motortrend.com/6253093/miscellaneous/all-three-hosts-for-american-top-gear-confirmed/index.html#).
The hosts' banter will make or break the show, which is expected to be approved by NBC for at least one season after the pilot episode airs. Production begins later this week.
Jeremy Clarkson, host of the original UK-based Top Gear show, said that progress on the American Top Gear show is "fantastic news -- but how on earth you lot are going to do it on the wrong side of the road I've no idea."
