View Full Version : Cruise to visit TUIVC's "Highway 38 Diner"
Our Sno-Dick had one of brain farts on Larry's thread about 'visiting' the infamous
Highway 38 Diner so I wanted to pick up on it, ANYONE interested in having a meet
and dine at the Highway 38 Diner ?
What IS the Highway 38 Diner ? Well here's Larry's thread with lots of pictures - unfortunately he didn't inform us about the current health rating so it COULD be just another Taco-Hell  but let's hope this is not the case ?!

Friday May 16th - May 18th

Paul, IF you move 'south' , it'll be easier accessible for you  to go to those places,
only 6 hours to Indiana vs. I-don't-know-how-many from NH

I think you would be much happer with May temperatures and humidity than August. August can be miserable. High humidity and temps.
My vote would be for May.

04-02-2008, 07:32 PM
I could prolly do august...Dusti are you sure you are 6 hours away, it is over 600 miles from Little Rock, would come come thru Memphis?
Well Larry, it's 6 hours to Indianapolis and since I don't know how far it is from Indy
I figured 6 hours
It'd be COOL if you could come  - would YOU have to go through Memphis ?!
We'd be going 24 North Through Nashville and Kentucky

Yes, I would go to Memphis and straight up....But May will not work for me...
What about you guys Magnummark, Squiggy, Drifting-John, Bob, Katbird etc. ? (sorry if I forgot someone)

...with all the PT/POA excitement, I failed to see this thread until I noticed I had a couple of new PMs about the subject
...I have visitors at "the Home" almost daily....not really sure what attracts people to it...just a bunch of cars sitting inside a building
...New Castle is about 40 miles straight east of Indy on I-70 at exit 123....exit and go north about 6 miles and you are in the big city....lots of good places to eat in town, including the HWY 38 Diner.....should be plenty of hotels available...
things to do...
...world class go-cart track (many races are televised)
...visit the "Home" and eat at the diner a few times per day:rll:
...Indy 500 Museum, kinda kool if you like Indy 500 history
...Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame is in town(I donated $$$ when it was built, but have never been inside:rll:)
...local car show is July 5th....draws about 2-250 cars
...honestly, there just ain't alot to do here...as I said earlier, thats why I spend so much time online:rll::rll::rll:
...ANYONE is welcome here ANYTIME, PT/POA/PPC, whatever:rll:...I had a Kat owner stop to visit last week while passing thru on I-70....if you are ever passing thru going to another event anywhere on the I-70, keep in mind, there is always a free hot meal at the HWY 38 Diner for Prowler owners
...not exactly sure of the dates, but I will be at MOPARS at Carlisle in June and MOPAR Nationals and Woodward in the middle of August...these are the only big events I have planned this year....taking a rest from the hectic schedule of the last few years

May might be to short of notice. Wife most likely would not be coming along. Something about Sno-mutt smelling like cheese...I don't know what that means! :rll::rll::rll::rll:
Thanks Larry for your response and your PM :tu:
O.K. - we got 2 dates so far :
MAY or AUGUST
August may be a bit of a problem due to folks heading to Woodward.
May would be o.k. IF not too short notice for some.

work for us .
Memorial Day weekend I would NOT pick, gazillions of 'lunatics' driving everywhere for the long weekend ....... nahhhh, that would suck ! :nono:
So I suppose the way you see this Frosty is driving TO Larry on Friday, do some stuff on Saturday and drive back Saturday OR Sunday ?! :?:
How 'bout drive down on Saturday, April 19th and back on Sunday evening April 20th?
Figuring from Elkhorn WI (adjust your times if needed) it's only a 5 1/2 hr run to New Castle...320 miles....
Leave Saturday morning 10 am'ish....you're there by 4 in the afternoon, lots of 'meet/greet/eat' time left in the day.... get a room.... book out on Sunday noon'ish and you're still back home before dark.
--(No matter which direction you come from!)--

...I have a short day trip possibly planned for Saturday, not a very long drive and something interesting (I hope) to see/do...since many of you are driving a long distance to get here, I didn't want to drive everyone to death on Saturday too...a little cruise and lots of time to visit/and relax....plus, there ain't a whole lot to see here anyway:rll:
...hotels in NC aren't plentiful and I have yet to get rates, but they are
......Holiday Inn Express (kinda new)
......Steve Alfords All American Inn(also, kinda new)
......Best Western, old, not sure how nice it still is these days.... they hosted the Maverick Nationals (anyone remember the Maverick) several years in a row, I'm serious:rll:
...I'll get rate info ASAP
...all three are within walking distance of each other with plenty of parking in a nice area just a couple of miles north of the interstate
...besides the Highway 38 Diner, there is an Applebees, Steak and Shake, White Castle and all the other normal fast food places....there is also a very nice Smorgasbord not far away about $20 per head if anyone wants to pig out....plenty of food/gas etc etc...

...any suggestions welcomed
...I'm gonna put out the "Kat Signal" for local Prowler owners to join in Saturday if they wish....there about a dozen Kats in town, but only 3 of us (me, Mr. Ed and Frank) have ever attended any Prowler events, anywhere
...hope all goes smoothe and everyone enjoys their visit to the metropolis of New Castle Indiana....

...and for you guys traveling alone, the manager showed me the new "Plastic Patty" they have available....there is only one, rented by the half hour...I took her on a date today in room #204, didn't even have to buy her lunch and she didn't complain about anything

Not sure exactly where you are Robert...but if I leave my place at 6am Saturday, that puts us to New Castle at around Noon:30.
We will miss the 'cruise' but be there in time for the BS which is fine with us :)
Broken down, that's southside Milwaukee at 7am...tri-state tollway north side, just inside Illinois at 730ish, running the 'downtown route' through Chicago...90/94...
into Indiana at 837am... then another 215 miles to New Castle...
6am is about as early as I want to leave, will probably be working friday night til about midnight or so, so earlier would be 'death warmed over' for me...
Keep in touch and let me know if you want to hook up with us.

Geno, I was going to try and make the 9AM cruise on Saturday but after hearing your plans, I would be more than happy to wait for you and meet up in Chicago. I would have to be up pretty early Saturday morning to try and make it by 9AM. I am in the same boat as you; can't leave on Friday. So we can cruise together from Chicago. I am literally downtown near the Taylor Street/Roosevelt exit right along your travel route to New Castle. I am right by the UP train yards which I know you are familiar with. I am thinking we can meet up at this exit since it is convenient on and off 90/94. Let me know how this sounds?

OK I've been on the phone all day trying to find a rear tire for my prowler. ran over a 1/2 in bolt and it broke my tire and then broke my fender when it came out. Now I need to get this repaired in 2 week's. Hope it dose not stop me from any event's. As they start in 2 week.
So if anyone has a Goodyear eagle 295/40R20 emt for the r.r. let me know I got about 10,000 miles one the set that's on there.

I do have them Geno, But done want to use them yet. I found a set for $400.00 on ebay that are Goodyear Eagle 285/40R20 EMT (run flat)And there brand new. I'm hopping to get them and installed before I go to Wisconsin. Or I will use the used one's I have. But the creak wont be fixed buy then. So everyone can see the damage a bolt can cause. Thank you all for your help.
Please tell me what I'm doing wrong. If these tire's won't fit. But from what I've learned there about a 1/2 in narrower is all.
It's that weight you've lost.... your rear-end got smaller too?
This is gonna be great folks ............ still time to join :tu:

Highway 38 Diner so I wanted to pick up on it, ANYONE interested in having a meet
and dine at the Highway 38 Diner ?
What IS the Highway 38 Diner ? Well here's Larry's thread with lots of pictures - unfortunately he didn't inform us about the current health rating so it COULD be just another Taco-Hell  but let's hope this is not the case ?!
