PALM BEACH, Florida — The just-aired TV series pilot for a latter-day Knight Rider (http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Features/articleId=124738) is now history, and auction goers can now feast their eyes on a pair of Ford Mustang GTs (http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Features/articleId=124566) that co-starred in the show as KITT. The two black performance-tuned KITTs are based on the Shelby GT500KR. They will be at Barrett-Jackson's auction on March 29 in Palm Beach and will only be sold as a pair.
The two Mustangs are both black and both equipped with Ford's 4.6-liter V8 engine, FRC500 Suspension Pak and Ford Racing performance exhaust system. The 500-horsepower "Super KITT" model — supercharged, of course, using Ford Racing's Whipple supercharger — has a GT500KR fiberglass hood and rear spoiler, GT500 front and rear bumper covers, 20-inch wheels and six-piston Brembo brakes.
The "Attack Mode KITT" has a GT500KR front valance and grille, a carbon graphite chin spoiler and custom bumper cover, air scoops and rear window insert.
Proceeds from the sale of the KITT cars will go to the Ford Salute to Education charity.
