had a patient come in today saying he wants to sell a "very rare chrysler" 1968 "spring edition" convertable. hes an older guy, one owner car. He told me that he took some photos to the curator of the chrysler museum and he was told there were only 12 cars made. he describes it as a gold convertable with a woodgrain sidepanel. has an upgraded motor and an imperial leather interior. Im not really interested in the car but cant find any info on this car. ill try to get some photos, if anyone know what this may be and is interested, i have the sellers phone number. hes selling in the low teens.
ndpendant.

The "Spring Addition" was called that because it was only available in the Spring of '68. The applique was first shown at the Chicago Auto Show in February. Based on the response, it was made a dealer installed option. It was available in the Newport 2-door Hardtop and Convertible only. Very few were sold, but my books have no actual production figures for the option. Since this was a dealer installed option, cars could carry any of the other options available for the Newport. Most of the kits stayed on the dealer shelves. As a dealer installed option, I doubt there would be any production figures for this. A couple thousand kits were produced.

thanks for the info, the weblink above didnt work for me. I wasnt sure what to make of it, since he was told by chrysler that only 12 of his existed. Didnt know if i was missing a diamond in the rough or just another piece of coal.

Well, it is definitely a rare piece, even better that it is a convertible. Chrysler says they have the oldest 1928 Plymouth too, but mine was built a month before theirs. The people at the museum are great but many of them are volunteers. I have caught them in a number mis-statements. They mean well, but no one can be fully informed on everything.

...I've seen several real ones around here thru the years, surely all 12 of them didn't end up in Indiana....they are rare today, no doubt.....had an older guy try to sell me one a few years ago, it was green...if the car is in decent shape and runs well, it should be worth mid teens just to drive it for transportation, but it won't make you rich

My handy little guide maxes the car out at $20130.00 in top show condition. A number 2 or 3 shows in the low teens
