....there have been helicopters called into New Castle this afternoon, Lifeline Helicopters....ambulances racing past my house on the nearby highway, sirens blaring
....an auto accident at the edge of town has apparently claimed the lives of several local people, possibly including young teens...the trauma of being in a serious accident, ejected onto the frozen ground and lying there waiting for help... will help ever come...your mind races, can I make it till help arrives...shivering violently, the only warm spots you can feel are from your own blood....looking at the fear in the faces of those looking down at you....hearing them speak of your family, your loved ones, in past tense....I could finally hear the sirens far away but I didn't wake up again for weeks
...I always wonder if people knew they were going to die that day, would they take the time to brush their hair one last time....when they bent over to tie their shoes, did they ever imagine it would be the last time they ever tied a shoe....did they get a chance to let their friends know how they really felt about them, one last time.....does their dog wonder where they went
...I try to enjoy every day in it's own simple way, make as many friends as possible and leave no enemies to speak badly of me...I feel so lucky everyday to be here, given another chance all those years ago for some mysterious reason....I have a great family, many friends, and have prospered beyond my wildest dreams....but someday, I and you too, will tie our shoes for the last time....will our lives be in order when it happens...
...I hope the young people injured today get the same chance I did all those frozen Januarys ago, coming back to life after all had given up hope on me...I hope they get to meet their children and their grandchildren....I hope they get to see another Christmas tree...I hope they get to tie their shoes one more time
That's DEEP stuff larry ! :-?

better news than first reported....
4 teenage girls, ages 13-17....high speed (reportedly 75mph), apparently trying to become airborne on "rollercoaster hill", black ice....car flipped over and over at high speed ejecting the occupants as it hit a stone wall....apparently 2 were believed dead on the scene but have survived so far with life threatening injuries and guaranteed permanent disabilities....4 lives changed forever, for sure
sorry.....I didn't mean to sound so morose earlier when I posted this, but many cold Friday afternoons I am reminded what I was doing at 4pm, January 6, 1961...it is all too vivid, even all these years later....I sure hope these girls all the best, a moments stupidity/immaturity doesn't deserve this kind of punishment

I also wish the girls the all the best. Unfortunately sometimes all you get is one moment of stupidity/immaturity. :frown::frown:

wow ....:mad:As Most of you know I am from South Africa, my question is ,Why is the driving age in the US so young? the world as I know it says that you can get a learner permit for one year at the age of 17 and at 18 take your test.
In South Africa if you can afford to buy a car with the ability to produce more than 200hp You have to take an additional advanced driving exam which is a 4 week racing program that deals with high speed and handeling.
I get so very upset that so much attention is directed at DUI drivers and the education on driving is minimal :confused::confused:

...I think my learners permit was at 15 1/2 because I took drivers training in High School.....we got our regular license at 16 and one month....by the time I was 18 I had driven well over 125,000 miles, and, looking back, damn was I lucky I didn't kill myself or others
...everyone should go to a driving school that teaches more than how to parallel park

and to drive ... I think it is scary to see how young drivers manage their cars ... my best is young girls changing lanes... some how they think that they gotta do it between the lines and signal at the time of the maneuver ... and then worry about other cars ... scary and this gets worse when it snows ...its just lack of education ...I think

...it's because they are texting someone on their cell phone....teens shouldn't be allowed to have a cell phone turned on while driving
...too many distractions, too many kids in a car, stereos too loud, cell phones ringing, driving is the last thing on their mind...then add a cigarette and a pet in the mix and they are an accident looking to happen

I too think there needs to be a more intense drivers program. I had drivers-ed in 9th grade, And my second car was a 68 Road Runner in 10th grade. You what to talk about a kid with a loaded gun? Many years later I was a volunteer firefighter- most calls not fires, but car accidents.Visions of pain and death in cars that I will always remember. I'm glad the Lord saw me threw my young years of driving.

Think about how many more kids would stay in school if the driving age was raised to 19.... think about how the can insurance rates would be lowered... less cars on the road, less pollution....
but most of all think of all the young lives it would save...
one solution would solve many problems

... too many kids in a car
Illinois has a law that for your first year of driving you can only have 1 person under the age of 18 in the car. Although other underage family members are allowed.
I do agree everyone should have to take some form of high performance driving school!!
A switch in driving age and drinking age may be a good thing. Teach responsible drinking before the kids are of driving age.

How about a mandatory GPA for a drivers license. Not only keep the kids in school
but actually force them to learn something.
Do we really want some punk that don't want to learn staying in school causing trouble if the only reason is for a license?

how about changing the age for a drivers license to 18 IF you graduate from high school and 21 otherwise. a lerners permit for age 16 IF you are passing all classes in high school and have a job.

todays reality is that if your dropping out of high school your usually not to bright or a victim of circumstance. the dumb ones will drop out and end up riding public transport to get to their job... that will get old pretty quick... Most people I hear dropping out is so they can work to get a car...
how about this.... any criminal conviction gets your drivers license suspended for 5 years...automatic
there must be a way to help with the polution problem by keeping idiots off the road...and making it safer for everyone...
Drinking, driving and voting .... all the same age.... makes sense !

...if I had to wait till I was 21 to drive, 21 to pick up chix and have my own back seat hotel, I would probably have turned gay:rll::rll::rll:
