Larry - He coached here at Louisville for 4 years - the longest he has stayed anywhere. He is a REALLY good coach on the field - but has some shortcoming off the field. I don't why he is ALWAYS looking at other jobs at the end of every season. IF you all can get him to stay - you're gonna have blast watching his offense. I sure he had stayed here last year. One thing you have going for you is that being a head coach in the SEC has been a goal of his.
Have fun - Petrino ball is exciting to watch! (but just for kicks pay attention to what you hear or don't hear off the field)

Marty,
We are hearing some of the things about off field ussues. I am looking forward to his aggressive style. Hopefully he will like it here and be here for the long term, Fayetteville is a great place to live, not real big but plenty to do. This is only his second college head coaching job. It seems he was not cut out for the pro's. Who was his defensive coordinator at Louisville? Thanks for your insight.

Larry -
Mike Cassity spent three years as defensive coordinator under Bobby Petrino at Louisville, the 2006 season as co-defensive coordinator with Kevin Wolthausen, who went to the Atlanta Falcons with Petrino.
Cassidy stayed here under the new coach and the defense was a huge disapointment this year.
Petrino's brother Paul was Offensive Coordinator although Bobby called the plays on the field.
My daughter Lindsay house sat for the Petrinos when his wife wanted to attend away games and be with Bobby during the 2005 and part of 2006 season. She had some interesting stories about the kids etc.......

Marty,
I bet your daughter could tell some stories...I don't have a feel yet as to what kind of personality he is, he said all the right things at the presser..He said he spoke softly and carried a big stick and that winning a national championship was his number one goal, I loved that part..lol....No word yet if all his assistants will come with him....Petrino and Arkansas are getting some bad press, especially on ESPN, hopefully it will pass....

Larry - as soon as the bowls start up and other coaching changes start happening, the press will lose interest in the story.
There is one guy that has posted on a football forum in the past about Paul Petrino -and they are not very nice things. I wouldn't be surprised if he contacted the local press in Arkansas if his brother hires him there. Baby brother must have stolen his girlfriend in college or something.....

Marty..Would you consider Petrino a good recruiter?...We are hearing different things , some say good , others say he is not a "players couch"....Most of our commitments seems to be excited about him, especially the recievers and offensive players.........

Yes- he has a freal ability to convince kids with offensive talent that they should play for him - especially QB and receivers should be happy to play for him. He is a "hard ass" on the field- practice or game, but there were rumors he let a lot of stuff go off the field that others think needed attention. Bottom line - he won games and even when they lost it was fun wathcing 450 -500 yards of offense.
Just hope he stays a few years and I'll be VERY surprised if he doesn't "look at" at least other coaching job at the end of 2008. My guess is he'll stay a few years but Tennessee could look like greener pastures in a few seasons. Hopefully for Razorback fans that won't happen.

According to the reports, his contract with us has a non compete with any other SEC school. He has a 5 year contract with Ark. with a 2.5 mil buy out..It seems like a great deal for us, also shows just how bad he wanted out of Atlanta. We are in the mood to overlook some off the field stuff for some big wins..lol...How is the support for your program since Petrino?..

They were reporting here that his contract had non compete for SEC WEST schools. He had signed a 5 year 25 million dollar contract with a $1,000,000 buy out here in July and left in January. Just enjoy it while he's there but don't be surprised when he leaves. I hope he gets some good players for you soon.

The report here is the non compete is for the SEC...I will check on that because I agree with you, Tenessee was a game away from firing Fulmer this year...It is going to be an interesting year of college football.....We have a better team coming back then has been reported..
