IRVINE, Calif. — The 2008 Saleen S281 RF, powered by the company's 465-horsepower twin-screw supercharger and tricked out with red accents, is bound for Saleen dealers shortly with a price tag of $49,995, including shipping.

Saleen said production will be limited to just 100 units. Only two exterior colors are available: black clearcoat and alloy clearcoat. It is outfitted with 20-inch chrome-finished alloy seven-spoke wheels and high-performance Dunlop tires. Other exterior cues include a rear spoiler, an RF Red Saleen windshield graphic and a serialized engine bay plaque.

The 4.6-liter V8 that powers the S281 RF delivers 465 hp at 5,800 rpm and 425 pound-feet of torque at 4,000 rpm. The engine is linked to a five-speed manual transmission.

The cabin has leather performance driving seats with red stitching, a six-gauge instrument cluster with a 200-mph speedometer, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and performance driving pedals.

What this means to you: All that fun for under 50 grand.

OK, I know it's a bad-ass hot rod and all, but to me i looks like every other Mustang I see roll down the road. Like the Corvette, there's just too many of 'em. There
is no sex appeal. People see a Mustang and go "Nice car." People see a Prowler or a Viper and jaws drop open.

Other than horsepower, what does this car offer that I can't buy somewhere else in a much nicer package?

Just saying...

Yep, good point ...... and what it DOES offer is best 'bang for your buck' - 300 HP for a GT for under $ 30K ...... get it 'charged' and some 'optical' work and you got
a 'muscle car' for under $ 40K ........ I would've LOVED to buy a Viper but with $ 60K+ for the newer ones not in my budget ........ so I went the Mustang way and
have NOT regretted it :burnout
