That is a graphic symbol indicating which side the fuel filler is located. The only function it serves is to remind you which side to pull to the pump.
The center bezel snaps off & no tools required. If you need more detailed instructions, please let me know.

Hi Jay..
Someone told me that you had to take out the consol... Is that true? I want to re-chrome it cause its full of scrathes. The letters like P R N D do they come off? Do you just pry the bezel off or their a special way?

Open both doors, tilt the steering wheel all the way down, insert your fingers in the defrost vents, do not lift but pull towards you while sitting in the seat. Again, no tools are required.

Jay, I think he is talking about the Shifter Bezel...
Norm, if that's what you are talking about:
1. Put Shifter in Neutral
2. Loosen Allen Head set screw in front of Shift Knob, remove Knob.
3. Gently pry up each side of the Shift Bezel, I believe there are 2 plastic tabs on each side (part of the Bezel, made of plastic), that fit into slots in the Console. You can usually lift the sides of the Bezel with your fingers. Then separate the Tabs from the Slots.
4. Disconnect the quick-connection for the Shift Indicator Lights (one end of the wire is part of the underside of the Shifter Bezel).
5. Remove the Bezel. Reverse the proceedure to install, after you make your Modifications.
Also, you'll need to slip the Shift Knob back on the Shifter Handle so you can put the Trans back into "park", so you can turn the ignition off. Have fun!

I have found that a credit card is perfect for pushing the tabs in on the shift bezel. no risk of marking it.

This is correct, Push the tabs on one side in (I do the pass side first) before you pull up.
Hi guys..
Thanks for all the info. One more precision. When you using the credit card is it when you are taking off the bezel or putting it back in :?: P.S. Sorry about my englis spelling i am doing my best not to do to much errors :lol::lol:.

Use when taking off.. start on passenger side.. in the corners.. push credit card under bezel to "nudge" the tab.. While doing this, keep a slight upward pressure on the bezel, and it will release
