Honestly, if my Prowler ever gets stolen, I don't want it back. I want money to get another.

Lamborghini Thieves Foiled...by LoJack

WESTWOOD, Mass. — The LoJack Corporation sent out details of a late-July theft of a Lamborghini Gallardo (http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/ViewModelDetail/make=Lamborghini/model=Gallardo) in Italy by burglars who "used sleeping gas to subdue the victim."

The thieves — whom LoJack describes as two Albanians — broke into a vacation home on the Eastern Coast of Italy, knocked out the victim with the gas, and then stole the keys to the Lambo. "Through the LoJack System, Italian police located the vehicle en route on a highway leading from Rome to Naples," the company said in a statement. "Italian State Patrol vehicles seized the vehicle and arrested two thieves, who were from Albania."

The vehicle had been purchased in France, the company said. LoJack used the episode to illustrate its capability to work across the borders of countries, including its European network, as well as a recent U.S./Mexico agreement. The company called its efforts "fighting crime on a global scale."

LoJack uses radio frequency technology to help track vehicles.

What this means to you: Lambo owners may need to pack gas masks on their next vacation.

DC, I would agree with you, but the problem is ... what will your insurance company give you? I wish I knew a better answer but somehow I think the difference between what my car is REALLY worth and what I could sell it for, versus what my insurance company would give me for loss would be a minimum differential of $10K. I'm sure I could sell mine for at least 40 with the color / shape / mods. But I bet State Farm would say something like 30

I asked if I could insure a prowler for a specific amount, and I was told that it couldnt be done because it's not "one of a kind" or a "classic." Payments would be just a little higher than my 03 Altima. According to Kelly Blue Book, an 02 Prowler with 70k miles and good condition goess in the low 30s. Not too shabby, I think, for buying another one.

See that's just the thing, they don't realize the real value of a candy, woodward, or black tie. They count it the same as any other color. Only those that are into prowlers realize through ebay auctions for example the premiums that they bring. Don't know how a 1 of 300 is considered a normal production vehicle.

Maybe with a little deeper research, something could come up. I spoke with a representative that didnt even know Plymouth was a brand....

I was wondering whether it was possible because I'd like to somehow insure the mods that I'm gonna do to mine when I get it. Pity

My agent told me if the mods were well documented and added to the value of the vehicle, they could be used for value. I even considered maybe once / year of putting my car on Ebay to see what it would bring, in hopes that it would prove value of the car if I ever God forbid need to battle with the insurance company.

That's good to know.

I dont think the ebay thing would work. You could get friends to bid high on your auction just to increase the price.

that is true and confirmed. you need to take pictures of the mods and give the copies to your insurance agent. And ONLY mods that are mounted/installed counts. Custom exhaust tips in a stolen weekender not claimable!

As for the value, what my friend did to get the max value during a claim was to ask the insurance company to find him an EXACT model with similar mileage the money they were giving him...the company could not and ponied up the balance. hope that helps.

So you could insure something like....say, a hard top?

How about lambo doors? And drivetrain upgrades?

We have a "stated value" policy on our kat. Should the car get stolen (or destroyed), the insurance company would pay the amount stated in the policy, rather than some artificially low NADA book value. However, the catch is that the owner has to get the car professionally appraised once a year (thus documenting the condition and any mods that would increase value). The policy costs a couple of hundred bucks more a year than a "regular" policy, which is well worth it because what good is a policy that won't pay what the car is worth? (The increased cost is partially offset by the special Massachusetts 50% Kat discount on the annual collision premium because our driving season is only 6 months long LOL)If you don't have a stated value policy, you may want to check with your insurance agent to see if it is available and if it makes economic sense.

I heard the only way to get a stated value policy is to go to a special insurance company such as Haggerty's which won't insure your vehicle for any daily driving activities such as driving the car on a nice Sunday to your soccer match.

Yes I have LOWJACK installed, and I also got a discount on my insurance. This does prove the system works. not sure how insurance became the issue?

I have a sat tracking system that I can moniter and control via computer or cell phone, made by dei and monitered by lunareye, foolproof, and also a decent insurance discount , but mainly piece of mind that I wont walk out of someplace and find my car gone, also have car jack, a credit card sized device that once I'm 20 feet from the car a timer starts counting down then the car will only idle, it disconects the throttle control. Hope i never need to see it in action, but can you imagine the look on a car jackers face when he thinks he's made a clean get away and then poof , no throttle

I have a neighbor who is a car collector and referred me to an Insurance company called Grundee specializing on collector cars and exotic. I called and the prowler qualifies. I have it insured for $50,000. USD My other insurance is State Farm whom I have been with for almost 30 years, would only insure my 99 Kat for $28,000. Go figure?
