Ford Motor Company announced today they will be matching GM's discount program, which GM has extended until August of this year. Ford faced with declining sales for 13 months had little choice. The program will not include the new Mustang. DC may enter the fray with their own announcement tomorrow.
Great time to buy a car? Maybe so, but the resale on current models will go down the tubes.
My wives 2002 Chevy Trailblazer listed for $37,000 plus when they first came out in 2001 and we paid around $34,000 and change. Under GM's current plan I can buy a new 2005 for around $32,000 with more bells and whistles. Value of our current ride with 75,000 miles....try $15,000.
Good time to buy?

Since I am now selling those Chebbys, I had a couple come in yesterday looking at a 2004 LaSaber Custom with 14,000 miles on it at $21900, looked at what we had for new and came up with this:
MSRP $28,750
Program price $26,130
Rebate $3,000
Final $23,130
For the same car a year newer and heated leather seats.
Oh and they hate me driving the Prowler to work, they had several people ask what model that was and how much!

This is what I was refering to, our current used cars are not worth much. Guess you just need to keep them till the wheels fall off. It's a great time to be a buyer.

Well I did it again yesterday,
2005 Crew Cab , LS trim, Duramax $44,900 after program and cash back $34,550. If anyone needs a tow rig now is the time to buy.

These deals just keep getting better all the time. If this keeps up, it will jump start me to maybe buy a new one. Problem is, where is that Crew Cab and others going to be price wise in three years?

LR, you'll just have to give them away or pay someone to take them......

blackcat, thats no bull. Used car prices have to be falling down the tubes. Problem is if you wait for delivery and you are going to trade, do they re-appraise you car when the new one arrives? That could kick you in the butt.
