I've only seen about a half dozen Prowlers in person. I saw a red one the other day that peaked my curiosity about these cars. A little research led me to the fact that they have 253hp and can cost anywhere between 30-40K. Why are they so expensive? Is it the low production numbers? "rarity" as it where? Also what kind of motorsports do they excel at? I am a bit of an autocrosser, dragracer my self but I never encountered a Prowler at any of these events or the like. The open wheel effect leads me to beleive it may be a good track car (ie. Button Willow, Laguna Seca, Nurburgring...) but I havent really seen them at those type events either. What kind of 1/4 mile times can it turn? And maybe a more personal question of why do you enjoy yours as much as you may? Thanks for your time and if your interested in who I am, I have a little picture journal that I made for my forum that you can peruse if you like.

My first "mod" was ditching the whale tail and adding a pink JDM impreza badge, this is at an early uncle lewie meet at Shark River Park.
http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f233/billfromtr/bigone.jpg
Next came some more exterior mods. Cleared headlights and the deleting of the impreza badge.
http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f233/billfromtr/56354923410_0_BG.jpg
Then I started itching for some power, I tossed on a TXS stealthback, Injen CAI and flashed AP stage II. As for exterior mods, I found a cracked Limited lip, repaired it and slapped it on.
http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f233/billfromtr/nicepic.jpg
It was protune time after that. I went to XX tuning in CT and was tuned by Doug from Topspeed. He suggested that I get a Walbro 255 fuel pump so since they were slow, they installed one for me while I was still up on the dynohttp://images.nasioc.com/forums/images/smilies/tongue.gif
http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f233/billfromtr/Picture002.jpg
And heres a short clip off my driving like an asshat after my protune. If you turn up the speakers, you can hear a little chirp.

Since I was semi-content with the power (yeah right) and I heard that my buddy Al was selling his JDM pinks, I bought them. Thanx Al.

Yes, I am a cheap bastard, so when I saw another local trying to sell his damaged RFL "really friggen loud" fart can, I bolted that bad boy up. Now my car has a super loud catless exhaust.
http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f233/billfromtr/IMG_0136.jpg
Christmas time!!!! Santa brought me a SMC enterprise meth kit. Again my friend Al pulls through an installs it for me. Not that I couldn't do it myself, but he had already installed 3 of these kits.

Did I already mention I'm a cheap sonofab1tch? Well here come my next mod. A brand new FMIC shipped to my door for a whopping $300. Its a knock off of TXS, but a pipes a pipe, right?

Better pic of it installed.

Dirty ass engine bay.
http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f233/billfromtr/IMG_0315.jpg
On to tune number deuce. This time I went to Automasters and was tuned by Rob, he set my meth spray to activate at 15 PSI, its a little dissapointing because I only spray in 3-6th gear, another dissapointment is the dyno graph, but he has a roller type "heartbreaker" dyno. Yes I made better numbers without the meth or front mounthttp://images.nasioc.com/forums/images/smilies/redface.gif
http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f233/billfromtr/Picture010.jpg
Know that in order to make any significant power gain equals bigger turbo, I went back to the exterior. Carbon Fiber hood, used, im cheap whaddayawant.
Oh yeah, I also got some maddad gauges (pod on top of dash) and a trunk monkey in the interm.

You can see the guages better here, also the meth controller is in the ashtray.

Welcome BillFromTR,
1. I think Prowlers are very affordable for 30-40K. U can't get anything similar for such money.
2. They are not really THAT rare, just lots of garage queens. Or most owners have multiple cars/prowlers.
3. Motorsports the Prowler excel in: Car Shows (we are honored to have a couple of champions on this site)
4. Good point, Prowler looks like a F1 car, with the right customizations, it will probably drive like one..just that it will cost alot....ALOT.
5. Stick with the STi or get a Exige S if you want to auto-cross without blowing up your wallet.

Yeah, Prowler's are not built to be the fastest car in the world. But they are fast enough to still get a little whiplash and have a good time.
Why get a Prowler ... there is NO CAR out there that turns heads and leaves jaws on the ground like a Prowler. If you are going for the WTF factor .... Prowler has no rivals. I live in Palm Beach where Lamborghini's and Porches are the norm and People just stare with their mouths open when I roll on by.
Think 30-40 is expensive? Find a car with this much appeal for this price. Good luck - it doesn't exist. Another excellent reason? I bought my car almost 3 years ago for just under $35K. Today I can sell my car for $40K without blinking an eye. You show me another car that you can own, drive 10K miles per year for 3 years and then still sell it for what you paid for it. It doesn't exist.
If you really want to check out a Prowler and see what the fuss is all about, let us know where you live and you can go to one of the Prowler events and see why we are all so proud of our cars.

Hi Bill ..... welcome...
Randy pretty much said it....It is an ever increasing pasion.. I love my Prowler more everday I own it. They are a blast to drive a feast for the eyes. I have to say that one of the attractions was the aluminum construction and that the car is hand built. A large amount of pride went into the building of this car. The workforce to assemble them was picked from the entire employee list and the people chosen were selected because of skill and dedication to a job well done...
I hope you enjoy this site as much as I have over the past couple years... a real fine bunch of members and I always consider myself lucky to call them my friends..

Welcome, You will find the Prowler is quite capable of being pushed through a set of corners and can run 100+++ mph. I think it runs a low 14 sec. 1/4 mile in stock tune and tires?
Hard to believe but every time I get back from a drive in it I can't believe how much fun I just had, even if it was going to the corner for a gallon of milk!
Thing is that most of us enjoy the cruising and hanging out with fellow owners as much if not more than the Prowler itself.
The Prowler is hands down the best car to own if you want lots of attention! Seems all age groups love this car.

Low 15's from what I've read. (T-bird shootout) Another thing I find interesting is the Prowlers 3.5L has 253hp and is claims its engine is HO (high output). My sisters regular run of the mill commuter car, a 2002 Nissan Altima, also has a 3.5L but it make 260hp:confused:

A lot of guys are running mid 14's without modifications.... But I'm sure you know there are a lot of factors that affect the times. 7 hp difference between manufacturers doesn't surprize me either...
If your after blinding 1/4 mile speeds then a stock Prowler is not for you... Its draw is the overall experience... besides, replacing a set of 20" rear tires isn't cheap. I have used up a set of rears every summer and thats not doing burn outs.... my baby does a real decent launch off the line and ends up shifting into top gear at 197km/hr...
as they say, anything more than a mouthfull is wasted....8-)

If all you are looking for is Horsepower and track times, this car is not for you.
A lot of us owner's are old school Hot Rod and early Muscle car lovers. The styling of the Prowler drew us to it and the way it makes you feel when your behind the wheel. It takes you back to your childhood and memories of an era gone by.
Side note: I know that there are more than a few of us that wish that Plymouth had dropped in a Hemi V8 with a manual transmission, power top, power seats, anti-lock brakes or even a second cup holder. I'm just glad they had the nuts to build it at all.

Oh Bill, another thing ... My car with gears and upgraded exhaust system, I can pretty much go stoplight to stoplight with any car out there. Then when you add to it the tires and the weight that these cars carry (about 2700 pounds - car is all aluminum) they can corner like nobody's business. I had a neighbor with his Z06 and we played around with tight roads playing follow the leader and he was shocked that I could hang.

Chick magnet car and only two doors so you don't have to bring the kids.. Like your car it can be modified to kick some BUTT..
Have seen them tracked and dragged...
Here is a picture of a close friends car Marc here in Colorado and it is THE BEAST...
The little 3.5 has a stroker kit to a 5.0 and has run 13's on motor alone. It also has N.O.S. which takes it into the 12's...
Remember this is at a MILE HIGH in Denver and at sea level you can take off another seconed from that time. making it a 11.0 second screamer...
There is one faster here in Colorado but it is on the other side of the mountain in Grand Junction nd I have not as of yet see it run..
His name is Dean and is the one that built Mark's motor as this is a side busness to trick out Prowlers..
That he does very well.. Here is some pictures of Marc's car..

You know, If the balls on the stock Prowlers are to small for you ( they actually do have balls ) you can always get a new set of nuts for yours...just like Marc's 5.0

Another great thing about having a Prowler is they hold there value and are on the up swing. Super easy to find in a parking lot as it doesn't blend in with the rest of the family 4 door cars. But be prepared to answer tons of questions on you Prowler because they draw a crowd of interested parties no mater were you go. With less than 12,000 made a lot of people have never seen them. One down side is not like most other cars you won't find them in JUNK YARDS making parts rare as they are not a THROW AWAY CAR even wrecked cars are fixed and sold for in the $20,000 range. Having owned my Prowler since 2004 one of the pluses is the people that own them and the sites to visit for the Prowlers. Second to none... onecatnodog

I'm not looking to buy one, I was just curious to hear what you thought of the car. I'm more of a function first kind of guy, more interested in power, speed, and handling. I dont fit into the demographic of over 50 married with a large bank account, hence the more utilitarian "bang for your buck" Suby. Whereas you guys might get all smiley about a old 50's wood paneled wagon or something, I'm more into Supras, Skylines, Evos and all things big turbo'ed and JDM (japanese domestic market). Hang out for a while, you might change your mind. Oh and we don't all fit in that demo ;-). I remember when I first saw a Prowler I didn't get it, I wanted a viper. It took me a couple years, but now I GET IT.
But you're right - most Prowler owners are pretty secure financially, and own many toys, I know I've run into several that own a few Prowlers and Vipers at the same time (there's even some stang owners here).

As long as we are happy with what we like then thats all that matters...you seem to be a respectfull guy and I think you can read from all our responses that we really like our Prowlers. Welcome Bill.
We really enjoy our Prowler and have put several mods on it to make it our own as you can see,
but those things that you can't see are a cold air intake, new exhaust and gears. Those changes
really gave the Prowler a real pickup and from traffic light to light it is a hoot and can give lots
of other cars a run for their money.

Whereas you guys might get all smiley about a old 50's wood paneled wagon or something, I'm more into Supras, Skylines, Evos and all things big turbo'ed and JDM (japanese domestic market)..

Thanks for the warm welcome! Have you been reading about the 2008 USDM Skyline? Word on the street is its going to be packing a :bowsTwin Trubo 2.8 Liter 6 Cylinder that will be pushing a tad over 500HP!!! They're pricing it around 60-70K and it should mop up the competition (viper/Z06).

Yep - very true. I heard the same thing about the Ford GT ... too many of them getting wrapped around trees and power poles. People that buy those cars that don't know how to drive them properly, should be forced to take a race-car driving course. Could save them a 100K.

DreamCast, That's to funny... I can't even get more than one picture posted correctly and you come up with that. Learned a few things in my 30 plus years racing, one being Don't do it on the Street (lost my license) and no mater how fast you are someone will always be faster. Was able to build, race, and wrench on some fast stuff in my day and the faster you go the less reliable the car becomes.. Speed Costs Money..Looks to be a Pissing contest here with horse power so I guess I will play my TRUMP CARD. http://www.prowleronline.com/ubb/image_uploads/100_3596.jpg

In LaLA Land..u see SOOOO MANY 350Zs of G35Cs wrecked....mommy and poppy bought their kids cars that they can't handle...
Where's 24K? He's upgraded from a tricked out EVO to the AMG
BillFromTR: You definitely WANT to keep the Subie being in the east coast...the WRX and Evo are the two best valued AWD pocket racers out there for the harsh winter. I think the Mitsu 3000GT VR4 is a good winter car with AWD and all-wheel-steering..but those montsers are impossible to maintain with the twin turbos etc.
Keep the subie as a daily or winter car...the new Skyline with AWD can replace it though :tu: and then get a cool SUMMER car like the rest of the east coast folks over here :devil

Hey Bill,

Sure thing. Its a SuperZilla 49lb. turbocharger. Replaces my stocker and along with the bigger injectors and some other little upgrades will put me around 375-400 to the wheels (450 crank).:tu:

VERY NICE ... now if you can manage to mount one or two of those puppies on a Prowler, you'd get us all a little more excited.
I know someone had a twin-turbo Prowler somewhere.
How much does something like that cost? Doesn't look like there's a whole lot to it.

That pictured up there cost $1645. Direct bolt on. If you wanted to boost a naturally aspirated engine, your talking a LOT of custom fabrication, and you'll need to get a fully forged internal motor. I'd guess somewhere in the range of 15-20K after its all said and done.

Butchcee had twin turbos on his Yellow Kat.....it would get gone in a sec...
I'm not familiar with the specs on it....he was running in the 12's before he sold it.

So which does more? Turbo or Supercharger? What's the cost difference, and what's the reliability difference ?

Best route to go for the Prolwer is a Supercharger. NO need for any ECU re-programming, timer etc.
