Eli,
Do you also offer aftermarket wheels? If so, what brands, styles can you get for the Prowler? Also, would you offer wheel/tire packages?
Thanks.

Actually to all ProwlTalk folks out there, if u want to save on shipping, PM me. You can ship it via Greyhound to me; I can pick it up from the nearby GH station and then drop it off @ Eli's. That should help out on the outbound shipping costs.

:nana2 Thanks to ALL involved with bringing "Fast Forward Wheels" on board!!!:nana2
You know...it's GREAT that Eli is offering us this discount just for being an active Prowltalk member but all I really care about is that my rims are FINALLY (sitting out in sunny Southern California for OVER a month at another plating shop) in the hands of a true professional!
At least I think they are. Eli...you said your driver picked them up yesterday...correct? ;-)
Honestly guys. I know many can remember ALL the threads started on Prowler flaking rims.
I can't believe...thanks DC...that we finally have a competent plater that understands what we are looking for.
A completely polished "Show Chrome" rim. (Including the inside barrel)
"It will be great to get feedback from Toohip on his order." Jim...judging by the lengthy telephone conversations I have had with Eli so far...I know it will all be good!:tu:

C'mon Pepe...I shipped mine from NH!!!;-)
On that note...it cost me around $140.00 to do it. Reason it was so high was that I let the UPS Store package them up the right way...so they wouldn't get damaged. They encased the rims(s) in that hard foamboard then built boxes around them.
They recommended that bubblewrap NOT be used seeing as how it could get easily squashed by the weight of the rims.
Thanks for the Greyhound offer DC!:tu:

Brian,
Your wheels are now sitting in my shop, they are with the first group (checking to see why all those weights are on there), they will get some correction-love if needed before they go on to the next step.
By the way guys, I offer custom built 3-pc wheels. Because Prowlers are a little new to me I would need to have one at the shop in order to draw out details to determine the fitment. Custom work :tu:
I'll try to post as many photos through the process as I can but you got to understand how busy things can get for me back at the shop. I can't always stop things to take photos.... I'll certainly shot some if I get the opportunity.
Take care, don't forget to thank your board host!

I am also interested to see just what kind of rims you can come up with that will fit the Prowler. A few people have replaced the Prowlers original rim but I guess you have to use spacers due to the rims odd spacing on the backside? I don't know if the same problem is encountered with the front rims also.
I may have this wrong so please correct me guys!;-)

I was wondering if Eli can offer a chrome or custom finish on our brake calipers and other front end parts. a black chrome over nickel would look awesome on Hellkat...
Gary E. does a exchange on front calipers in chrome for $350/set.
Is this something your interested in Eli ?
if so.. give us some details.

If you're fine using the same back-spacing spects on the OEM wheels I'm refinishing I can certainly take down the spects. Do you have any particular patern in mind? I'll see what I can do... Mind you more custom built wheels have a starting price range of around $3500 per set.

We have a finish where-by we can change original chrome finishes into the look of Black-Chrome or Black-Nickle. This is the Diamond Over-Lay process. Other than that we offer caliper refinishing.... :tu:

Eli, I have a question for you. On the face side of the rim, at the center where the cover goes, can you blend in the indent area and polish the entire area where the lug nuts go? For those that choose to throw away the cheap plastic crap DC put on, and replaced them with spinners, it would be nice to have this area polished.
Like everyone else, welcome to the board and thanks for the interest in fixing the problem wheels.
And thanks also to Dreamcast for the legwork on this. :tu:

Hi there Jim
Thanks for the welcome,
I can pretty much do anything wheel related within reason.....
THIS REQUEST FALLS WITHIN REASON! Sure I can do this for you, there will be some added cost for time of course. I base most the work I bill out by two things TIME & MATERIALS. I'd estimate that it would be an extra $30 per each if I'm turning the whole wheel..... :tu:

Actually the wheels didn't seem to be out of round... This is what we check for the first time around, when the chrome is removed then we'll check the balance... We can certainly see what's going on there, I think it's better to do it this way since the chome may effect the results..

WOW - that's good news. The stock rims so many like them, but the quality was the issue. Now to get them with the show quality we want ... NICE OPTION. Hey - if he chromes the calipers Jim, maybe even the whole front end, upper/lower arms too ... getting those in that black diamond chrome .. might be sweet for hellkat.

Well, today I dropped off my wheels @ FFW:
1. Thanks to 24KInMotion for loaning me 4 wheels + tires!
2. Had a good chat with Eli, am still on the fence with regards to the nickel chroming. As TooHip said, if I do it, the Black Kat stays for good 8-)
3. Thanks to David/Eli for working out a discount for PTalk members!
4. For folks who are looking for billet caps/spinners from Eli, you might want to speak up! Maybe a group-buy might get something going? I really want to get away from our plastic wheel caps, so I'm in for 2 sets! If we can get enough commitment, we might be able to get something going with Eli to make it worth his time
5. I was pretty impressed when Eli mentioned he knew the guy who worked on the Prowler concept wheels which had the ridges. Anyone wants to get a set of custom Prowler concept wheels made? 8-)

TooHipCat: First off let me tell you that your wheels "were" almost done today.... Problem is that I wasn't 100% happy with the finial product and therefore I made the call to replate them.
I know that you won't mind waiting the extra time. I just know that a week is a small price to pay for a perfect set. There was some showing of the rear surface. The fronts were 100% perfect but it was the inner side that made me have a double take... I'll keep you posted. I have photos, just no time to upload, size, post etc.
Guys the concept wheels are something I'll need to look into as to the production etc. If you guys are interested in these just let me know so I don't spin my wheels for kicks.....
Also regarding the billet center caps I can see what we can work out on a group-buy, but I will need to know how much interest there is....
Dreamcast18, Thanks for the business.... :tu: I'll get started on your set come Monday.... I'll call you once they are ready so you can tell me if the Diamond finish is something that you may be interested in....

Maybe when DC picks up his wheels you could look at his receiver thats on his Prowler to get an idea of its size and shape.

I don't know if this can be a help to anyone but I have a set of nasty peelers that I replaced with Martin Brothers wheels. There was a guy with an old truck that was interested in buying them but that deal fell through when he crashed the truck....

Eli, on a side note, can you comment on the original wheel platings?
Why do so many (most) prowler wheels have this issue?
Also - if one lives near the ocean, are there extra steps one can do to try to minimize the effects of waterfront living? Does a carnuba wax or zoop for example protect the metal?
Thanks - and your wheels look superb. I think you'll get more business from Prowlers than you'd guess.

Like I mentioned it appears as though the wheels are only plated from the dealer... Meaning that they are not triple plated, triple plating does a couple of things, one it helps bond the plating work to the surface, two it also allows for smoother surfaces when the chrome is applied and three it creates a thicker plating.... As all plating goes, you'll need to take care of them, wipe them down after ANY rain driving. Don't let water sit in the back-area... This will damage any plated wheel over time.

The guys that took the old tires off prior to sending the rims out to CA are pros. I guess that's why they're called Rim-Pro.
Eli...do you recommend that they use the stick on wheel weights on the inside of the barrels when they go to balance them?:?:
Do you think any good tire and rim shop would have them in stock or should I order them through Chrysler?:?:

So in your professional opinion you feel that American Racing didn't triple plate?
I always thought that the reason that the chrome was flaking off the inside barrel was due to a poor prep job prior to plating.

Fronts and rears are different in cost but in short, after the DISCOUNT offered to members it comes to an average cost of $250 per wheel. This is in total.... Even if you have some minor curb rash.... :tu:

Eli,
I went to the tire shop today to get the tires taken off the wheels and they were booked out all day and couldn't get them until Thursday and I'll be away...This will have to wait until I get back next week.. sorry about the delay, thats what I get for being sick...

Hi Eli,
I had the tires removed today and put the two 17" wheels in one box to get a postage rate... this box was $64.00 with a 3 week delivery....$90 delivered in 6 days. The 20" will need to be put in seperate boxes and will probably be around $50 each (3 weeks) $75.00 for 6 day.
bottomline: shipping 3 weeks $164
6 days $240
you may be able to get better rates from UPS or Fedex, my postal code is b0j 1w0.
let me know if you are still interested...

Sometimes when you see other's work it's very stand-up to give the thumbs-up. :tu: Glad to hear . . . .
I'd be happy to assist others in the group as I've done before. I've painted wheels for shops who only specialize in Rim Repair. We do it all but hey, I'm not trying to take away anyone's market-share especially when they are using my services...
I'd even be happy to recommend them out if they bring business my way. When customers call from their area, why not.... It's all about networking....

To be honest with you Eli...I had originally thought about going with Rim Pro when I first thought about re-chroming my rear rims. They sub out their rims for repair...but I'm sure you already knew that.
I honestly DID NOT feel comfortable with the whole situation when their plater...whoever they would have sent my rims to...didn't even want to warranty his work.
I felt very comfortable after talking with their technician...Jim...that they were going to do a great job mounting my tires. The came out great!!!
I did notice that my front rims are encountering the same fate as my rears...yes they too are starting to flake.

I snagged this off another site and since it pertains to chroming of wheels, i thought I would ask the expert.....
question: Does this quote make any sense ?
"were not talking harleys here bro.the fact that you have wheels chromed all the time doesn't mean squat.take your chromer a chrome prowler wheel w pits on the inner barrel.he will tell you he cant get rid of the pits unless he machines out the pits, depending on how bad they are.the shape of the inner barrel where it meets the center of the wheel is near impossible to machine.i should have been more specific most people with prowler chrome wheels with pitts want them rechromed to get rid of the pitts.if you have chrome wheels w/o pitts then they can be rechromed.price what i quoted is for 4 wheels not 2 and there is no exchange needed,600.00 plus 2 wheels who's absurd now."

Well, I hope what I say here makes sense.....
Pits are like cancer, once they are there it is difficult to remove and the difficulty will be in how deep the cancer has dug in. Yes, it's true you can machine the wheels down if the cancer hasn't gone too deep. An alternate method is adding metal to fill in the pits but that can prove to be expensive since pits come in groups "usually".
Most of the pitted wheels I see come from the East Coast where salted roads are the norm. We have sealed chrome wheels for some of our customers who have expressed concerns since they used there wheels in winter driving conditions. Sealing a wheel does keep the harms of the chrome away but it is only a sealer which means it still needs to be treated as a regular painted wheel. You should water down your wheels each day in winter driving conditions where salts are used.
If I missed something please let me know.....
Happy Driving!

We've had success in Diamond Coating which is a color process used to "color-chrome" if you would. :eek2:
We've done Black, Red, Yellow, Blue, Green, Orange and a few custom in-between colors. Regarding pricing, if your wheels are in excellent condition then you're looking at $150 per wheel, now if you need new chrome then add $100 ea. on top of the regular prices I've given to you guys..... :tu:

I have seen the black chrome on Eli's Porsche...impressive. Was very tempted to black chrome the Prowler spokes...but I like pure chrome too much. I think it will look good on a Black Prowler...maybe Pepe should do it when he re-chrome his rims?
BTW: I think the original Prowler chrome is so thin and prone to peeling/pitting; that anyone doing the color chrome should just have Eli strip the original chrome and put on some nice show-chrome :tu:

Eli - you are a wealth of information and your answers and efforts are appreciated. That being said, a quick question ...
For those of us that haven't encountered the pitting / peeling rims (mine is a 2002 if that matters) - should we get with you when/if they start to peel, or should we think about preventative maintenance and have you redo them even with no current wear and tear?

Hi there, I just returned from SEMA just minutes ago and so here we go....
To answer your question, the best thing I could recommend would be a sealer... But if you have had your wheels for a while sealing the wheel might not keep it safe if there is a chance they have split or started.
I've done quite a few seal jobs for those living back East..... Most of those who have had pitting before don't want it again.... Yes, we've sealed over chrome wheel, you just need to treat your wheels as you would painted since the seal is the same as we do when we paint and bake.....
Let me know if you have any other questions I could help answer....
PS. I have tons of photos from SEMA which I'll be posting very soon..... I'll draw a link directly so you can view the shots!!! If you don't hear from me within a week please contact me so I can draw a directly link from the FFW site.... :)
Take care all....

Sherman, how much would you need for the Wheels? I'm interested in getting a set rechromed for my Prowler but I believe all my Wheels are too crappy to send in to exchnge. Let me know what you would take for yours and I'll see if Eli could chrome them for me.. Just PMed you too.
Thanks, Buddy.

I don't know Buddy...check out Eli's website. He definitely is a perfectionist!!!:tu::bows
The set of rears I sent him were real rough...and now they're flawless.:tu:

Nah...I had them off DC cuz I had several items out for paint and it's so much easier to detail when those side panels are off.

I'd give him a call Brian to give him a heads up. Don't forget to mention that you want the inside barrels of both sets to be of "Show Chrome" quality.
I believe that's what you meant by your statement above.

I opened the flood gates on both sides chrome and paint recently and offered sets as low as $399 for Summer promotions on painted wheel sets. I've gotten a pretty good response so I'll hold on for as long as I can keep up with the work.
I'll keep the doors open for you till you return...

Ed, I have a spare set of calipers. I put Willwood's on my cat. If you want to borrow them, let me know. I can take them to Eli and drop them off for you when I pull my rims off for him to rechrome. Just send me yours when you swap them out.

Sorry buddy, in efforts to bump up the amount of work we're taking in we put up a Summer promo, trust me, it's really working..... Everyday has been busy since we've put up the promo. We haven't dropped to these promo rate lows in more than two years.
Not sure how long I'll keep it but it's certain to keep us busy though the Summer...

Not a problem Eli, you roll the dice sometimes, you win sometimes you lose.
In this economy, if you can keep the shop busy your ahead of most.
