View Full Version : Let's Welcome a Potential ProwlTalk Vendor: Fast Forward Wheels!

I went down to Fast Forward Wheels today. Having done alot of research on local chrome shops (see my old posts), I figured I wanted someone VERY close-by and of good repute.

Eli is the owner of FFW and he's very knowledgable about WHEELS. First class expert and is a Porsche owner with a great list of clientale. He does not do work on 'cheap' cars, but he'll do our Prowlers!

He had a look @ the peeling American Racing wheels, examined the peeled chrome and commented on the chroming done by AR...its embaressing to find out how badly our original wheels were chromed

He has some great ideas for my Prowler wheels (possibly a duo-tone). And sorry Piddler, he does not do plastic chroming - I asked.

Hopefully, Eli will register and post here soon. And folks here should let him know the potential of 11000 kats with peeling/pitting wheels so that he'll be a ProwlTalk vendor for good! Please welcome him to the club!

I will be sending 3 wheels to Eli as soon as I figure out how to deal with having 3 missing wheels for 2 weeks on daily driver

You can see some of the work FFW has done here:

Remember: You read about Fast Forward Wheels here on ProwlTalk first! :burnout

welcome Eli....

this wheel issue has been a sore spot for almost every Prowler owner ....

when you get Wheels peeling while they are still in the box... its a shame.

Mine are extra nasty... I have ordered a set of Martin brothers wheels to replace them but still have the nasty set..... did I say shamefull ? AR Wheels deserve a beating for not standing behind their product....

Anyways, Welcome....

Any friend of Dreamers is a freind of mine

Cock-a-doodle-doo Eli,

WELCOME TO the Forum ! :tu:

Great find DC and we SURE could use a knowledgeable Chromer (I mean a REAL Chromer not one with a sissy dog  )

Can't wait to hear about pricing for re-chroming since mine are baaaaad

Welcome, the wheels are a problem. Talking about wheels, they say the brake dust some people never take off will in time mess up your wheels also.

As I'm sure you've heard...Eli now has my pair of rear flaking rims at his shop. He drove up to the shop that I originally sent them to in Valencia yesterday, to pick them up.

That dude up in Valencia did tell me that he tried rechroming a set of Prowler rims a while back and he wasn't happy with the results. I guess he got flashbacks when he seen my rims. They weren't even in bad shape.

Eli told me..."We straighten, repair and rechrome the rims that other shops don't want to touch".

He sounds like a very honest and straightforward individual. I can't thank you enough DC for hooking me up with this guy.:tu:

I mean my rims were ALMOST on there way back to me in NH...UNFINISHED...until you guys let me know about Fast Forward Wheels.

Norm...

That is absolutely correct!!!

I had the opportunity to speak with an American Racing rep last year at a local car show. After he proceeded to tell me that there was nothing he could do for me regarding my flaking rims....he proceeded to show me a damaged set of rims that were ONLY about a year old. The rims he showed me were also AR rims. He pointed out the spots on the rim where the brake dust had collected and caused the chrome to start to pit.

He told me that in addition to ceramic pads...wheel maintenance is of the utmost importance!

This is why I am still contemplating ceramics on my rears...even if they do chew up my composite rotors over time.

I was trying to post earlier but unfortunately I had to wait for the admin approval before posting....

Anyhow, first off let me say "thank you for the warm welcome!".

Admins please feel free to delete or modify any part of my post if it confilicts with the rules outlined in the rules section. If you're open to the idea I can offer "forum member discounts" for a small slot on the board. Please PM me, I don't know who the admins are here.. sorry.

Anyhow, it was great speaking and meeting with a couple of you guys. I'm a Porsche owner myself and host events several times a month just to give you an idea how busy things can get around here.

Brian H. my driver was out on Friday so he'll be picking up your set on Monday so that we can get started. I'll take some before and after photos to post here. I'm happy to answer questions you may have regarding the wheel damage, repair, refinishing and plating process if you guys have any.

Once again thank you for taking the moment to extend the warm welcome. Just for kicks here are some photos from this mornings "fun-run", we hosted some 30+ Porsche owners today....

That's cool Eli!

What time do you think your driver will be up in Valencia to pick up my pair of rims?

I will give the place in Valencia a call to let them know an approximate time.

You can post all the pics you want of my rims...before...and after.

I tried to send you a couple of pics to the e-mail address on your website, but the e-mail came back to me undelivered.

I'll try and post a few pics on Prowltalk when I get a chance.

Thanks for all of your help Eli...and once again to DC for hooking me up with you.:)

Brian,

I can't give you an exact time since my driver will have several trips to make. I'd say that he should be there before 1PM. Valencia is close to 1-hour away but as indicated on the phone, I'd sure hate to have the wheels damaged if they are under-packed.

I'll have them started as soon as they arrive at the shop. :tu:

Hey Eli,

I'll be next after Brian's wheels are done (in fact, I'm open for this coming week).

I'm interested in getting the nickel chrome coating on the spokes. I'm gonna drag 24KinMotion and SkanKat along for opinions on it, so let me know when you're bringing your 911 to the shop.

All I ask is that you guys give it your best shot!!!:tu:

I imagine that seeing as how you guys rechrome, straighten and repair some of the really high end wheels...the Prowler rim rechrome should be a piece of cake.

Here's a couple more pics showing the flaking and minor pitting on the inside barrel portion of the rims. I took these pics just prior to dismounting my old and worn out tires.

I know Norm...it sure looked liked crap...didn't it.

The chroming shop up in Valencia that Eli's driver is picking my rims up from tomorrow, told me that one of my rims was a little out of round. I guess that must be the one.

The excessive amount of weights could also be due to the bonehead I bought my kat off of. He was technically the 2nd owner even though he didn't drive it. I purchased it with only 9,700 miles. This is the guy that swapped out the original painted Silver rims and remounted the 99 chromes on the original EMT's.

How's that for a long drawn out answer as to why I have so many wheel weights!!!

On another note..those weights probably made ur Kat alot slower than everyone's else

Actually DC...I think their kats were slower than mine seeing as how they hardly ever drove em. The cars way too much fun to let it sit in the garage and collect dust.

I got almost 42,000 miles out of the original EMT's!:tu:

Sure does seem like signs of an unbalaced wheel... Unless your installer just figured he double up on the weights for some unknown reason...

I'll check this wheel before we start. . . I'm sure it will need some correcting...

Some of the weights can actually come from the tires. But trust me, we contract for some of the OEM manufactures and wheels are not 100%. . . .

In the time I've balanced wheels you usually get a perfect balance one in maybe 30. . . .

Lot of good driving and maneuvering in that clip.:tu:

I was not only watching your beautiful rides but also where you guys were going. I'm glad you didn't take the 710 towards LB. Man...that stretch used to be full of divots.

When I think back to my 8 years in Southern Cal...I just can't get all the traffic jams out of my head. I used to have to travel up the 405 from HB to Redondo everyday.

You are right in saying that there are places and times that you can really open it up.

Yes, there are some bad areas on the 710, some were cleaned up but others way down south got no love....

We shot down the 5 fwy that day, we have a video clip from this past weekend being worked on right now. I submited the soundtrack for this one, it should be up and ready within the few days. Someone has posted their own on the site but it's too long and unedited.

How many locals do you have? I was thinking of putting together some huge event, hopefully by next summer 2008. I'm talking huge.... I'll get some of the F-cars, Lambos, Porsche, may be some prowlers :tu: ... Let me know if you would have at least 5 locals interested. I'd hate to advertise for such an event with less than 5 of anything. Estimations now are at least 100 in attendance. I'm sure by the time the event rolls out it will double.....

Sounds like a plan to me, just trying to figure out where. That's usually the biggest thing when organizing an event over 100. There are a couple cities that have done this before, it's just a matter of the logistics.....

If it happens this year that would certainly be great!
