It looks like I will be breaking new ground here.....the covers should be back from the leather shop around March 23rd. I'm hoping I can avoid removing the seats to do the job...has anyone taken the seats out before ?

Never done it but Rich Ware did. If I remeber correctly the foam is attached to the leather.

I know there is a main foam pad plus the leather has about an inch of foam stuck to it. I have a set of Katzkin covers that were made exactly like the OEM covers. they are a silver color. The leather guy is going to dye them Black then stitch orange and yellow flames on the seats and backs..

I'm hoping the seats are as easy as the backs... they are just slip over zip ons...

I may remove the seats just so I don't have to struggle with it in the car. Hopefully the seats are just 4 bolts to get out...

Here's all I found so far.....

If you are going to your local trim shop to try to get yours done they will probably tell you that they can’t do it, of course that will be after they remove the seats and try to get the covers off. The covers and the foam are bonded together in one piece. You can’t just remove the covers and put on new ones like most other cars. The covers are put in a mold and the foam is then injected into the cover and they become one piece.
What I hope to get done is furnish a new set of foam and cover assemblies that you will be able to install your self on your seat frames and keep your original covers, It would be a simple job for you to install. I think that I can get it done at an affordable price but I don’t have a time table right now. I am working with a company that will be building a seat for a big account of theirs that will take the same foam that will fit on the Prowler seat frame, that way it will be much more affordable because of the volume. He is going to build the frame to look like the Prowler on the seating surfaces so the foam will fit either.

Jim,
Contact Bob at Real Rod. He at one time had replacement foam for the seats.

I remember reading that the seat covers are bonded to the foam just as Blackcat has already stated.

Thanks Guys....

Bob is not likely to get back to me.... he has some trouble getting back to folks that have sent him money for product.... These covers may end up going over the existing seats... this may be the way they were intended to go on anyways... and that would be easy.

Even before you dropped the ad I was concerned that this site was directing sales to him and the folks would not get their product...Don't get me wrong, I like Bob, I've spoken to him on the phone and found him to be a nice guy. He just lacks follow through on the business end....
The same thing happened to me with obi-wan....people even tried to warn me, but the jack-ass in me wouldn't listen, months later, i recovered most of my money but it was a road of broken promices. I've learned to pay a little more attention and listen instead of shooting off about things I know little about.

Jim, it is a simple job to remove the seats. 4 bolts each. Take the Front bolts out first then slide the seat tracks all the way forward to get to the back bolts. I think it is a 13mm bolt. You will have to unbolt the bottom of each Seatbelt and pass the Seatbelt through the eyelet at the top of each seat to be able to get the seats out without damaging the eyelet. Takes a special star shaped socket adapter to remove the seat belt bolts...a big one. The driver side has an electrical quick-connect for the Seat Belt located at the Console side, the passenger side does not. Drop the top and lift them straight up and out, that is easier than trying to finesse them out with the top up.
I believe the Backs are secured to the back frame with a Zipper after the Head Rests are removed, and come off like a slip cover. I cant quite remember about the Bottoms. I do know you have to un-zip the backs to get access to the clips that hold the Headrests in, to get the headrests off. Once the seats are out you should be able to see if the Bottoms are hog-clipped on or attached with wires. Not as hard a job as it may seem.
If you run in to a snag, let me know and maybe I can help. -Buddy

Thanks Buddy,

Those are great instructions. It doesn't seem like it will be to difficult to get them out of the car. I think I will try the passenger one first. I'll have to take a few pictures to show the process.
