Thanks for letting me join ProwlTalk! Unfortunately, I do not own a Prowler(yet), but I am "toy sitting" a red 99 model for a friend for a month or so while he is out of the country. I'm cleaning it up and fixing a few problems and he is letting me drive it. I feel like a make a wish kid! Having a blast driving it around with my kids.

The car is having some ignition problems and I was hoping you Prowler veterans could maybe help me out. When I first picked up the car it took a few turns of the key to get it to start and it has continually gotten worse to the point that it will not start now. Everything lights up on the dash, but it will not start. Even when it would start, some things wouldn't work some of the time like the AC and blinkers. I checked fuses and they all seem okay. I think it may be a bad ignition tumbler, but wanted to get you guy's opinions.

ThX!

HOWDY fellow BamaKat

It sure sounds like a bad battery to me too. We had the very same problem with our
2001 - electronics going crazy (while car was running) etc. , changed the battery
and problem was solved.
I would try that first and go from there :tu::tu:

Replacing a battery isn't all that bad, just have to get an socket extension (I forget
the size, but borrowed a couple) to get at the screw/bolt behind the battery.

Welcome to PT.

i would clean the battery terminal first then charge it. Then do a battery test if all these check out OK then look at the switch. JMO

As has been pointed out already, more likely bad battery than the lock cylinder. Especially if it is an original. Also, one of the cables to the battery is also attached a the frame right by the battery. This has posed some "issues" too, where it has rubbed through the casing and will cause an "intermittant" problem. A small piece of rubber hose over the cable will provide a cushion of protection.

Enjoy your ride for the month!:nana2

if there is an Auto-Zone or Pep Boys near you, they will usually check the battery for you at no charge.

Thanks for the info. Definitely easier to start with the battery.

I took the battery out and got it checked. It was bad and under warranty so they gave me a new one. I put it in and the blinkers and AC started working, but the car will still not start.

Does it crank?

no, it still will not smart. Going to check solenoid next I guess. Still think it may be the ignition, but...

Is the starter turning the motor over, or do you get nothing at all when you turn the key?
