I've only had my kat out a few times since I got it, mostly due to weather and I've been doing some mods. But each time I've noticed the brakes don't grab well. They seem to require alot more pressure to be effective compared to my daily driver. The car only has 9600 miles on it and the brakes look fine visually. I was just wondering if this is a normal characteristic of the car.
Did you check your brake fluid level ?

Do you have slotted and grooved rotors? That's what I have with ceramic breaks. The stock rotors are not as good. And I think I gained 10 HP.

stock ones
If i were you ( and I'm not. I'm better looking) I would do a search on slotted rotors and pick up a set. If you don't have ceramic breaks pickup a set of them also. The ceramic breaks are knowen for not leaving dust behind.

I think i did my breaks at 2400 miles. they come from the factory with cheap ass break pads.( junk) but I did the rotors when i did the job only because My car is the fastest one ever made, And when you have the fastest prowler ever made you need to stop it some how!

I have ceramic brake pads and stock rotors and 57 k miles brakes still look brand new. At 9600 miles you shouldn't have any problems your 2 cars have completely different braking systems.

They're 4 wheel disc brakes, but no ABS. You have to pump them.
Funny, I also have a '05 PT Cruiser GT with excellent ABS assisted
brakes, which I pump as well.

The prowler brakes are not the best. Big wheels small roters not a good combo.

This is confusing now. Another guy said his prowler stops better than any car hes ever had.

mine stops on a dime every time.
is your brake fluid almost transparent...or darker in color?
If dark, regardless of mileage, it needs to be changed.
Insofar as stock rotors, I still have stock, and have no problems
with braking the car. It doesn't stop on a dime, but about a quarter :)

i say mine stops on a dime cause recently a guy on a skateboard crossed in front of me and if my brakes didn't stop on a dime i would have hit this guy.
The brakes on my Prowler have been subpar from day one, just push harder when needed. The factory rotor through the rear wheel looks like it was pulled from the "Neon" parts bin, but like I tell everyone.....whatever you don't like about the car, is part of it's charm

It is a bit dark actually. Do you think that could be my problem?

depending on the year of your kat it's almost 10 years or older..Just flush it, easy job job and not much money..I would bleed to each wheel so all lines get flushed

I just read in the service manual that it should be done every 2 years because brake fluid absorbes moisture over time.

IN daily drivng, my experience is the Prowler brakes "feel" soft but when you really need to stop quickly, the brakes work quite well.

If your front wheels are getting brake dust, switch to the ceramics. Maybe the previous owner did it already. New brake pads are one the first things most Prowler owners do.
The rear brakes cannot use ceramics from what I have read, due to the metal used to make the rotors. The fronts will benefit from ceramics, and keep the wheels and suspension from looking like crap.
This Kat had stock brake pads:

Thats not the car Brian.. I ended up with the car that had been burned by a jealous Ex and worked on it two years. When it was finished, the guy I bought it from bought it back from me! That isnt the car...
The guy I traded with for it isnt the guy that did the deed either. The car changed hands a couple time before I ended up with it.
