Believe it or not I am going to replate my rear rims...even after reading several older horror stories. I love the look of the original Prowler chrome rim. :tu:

I got a chance to speak with the owner of California Chrome...John.

http://www.calchrome.com

His prices are a little high but I felt confident in his ability after speaking with him. He explained in full detail what I should expect.
I also mentioned to him that I wanted the inside barrel of the rim to be of show chrome qualty. He did offer a 1 year guarantee if the plating starts to lift.

Your input PLEASE guys.

Anyone that wants to chime in with a plater of your choice...that has plated Prowler rims before...will be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!

Thanks for your help everyone.:tu:

Hey TooHip,

I posted a similar question previously. I was gonna to do black powder coating on the inside, but I think folks here convinced me the depth of the chrome is the way to go.

How much does John wants per wheel? I just need to pick up a rear from Sherman in order to send the flaking rear in for re-chrome and see if this guy is good. That way, you can save some $$$ shipping it over and having to deal with inferior results (always easier to 'scream' at a guy in person  )

I have not gotten around to re-chroming since only meeting the local Prowler guys do they point it out (including repeatingly telling me my hub caps are not there). :rll:

He wants $360.00 a rim to re-chrome.

PLEASE...do not take your wheels to this guy if you are already reading to jump down his throat!!! He almost didn't want to take mine due to bad experiences with previous customers.

I suggest anyone that decides to go with Cal Chrome...you talk with John first!!! He will tell you up front that it may not come out as good as you expect it to. There could be pit in the aluminum that is too deep to fill. He told me they can only go so thick on the copper before they have adhesion problems.

Has anyone used any other platers?

Thanks A/C...Larry has already been a big help.

I was trying to tap into the additional resources here on Prowltalk, hoping that someone else has tried another plater.

I'm going out on a limb here but it looks as if Cal Chrome will be the guy.

I won't get a chance to send them out until Wednesday. I have to take my daughter to the doctor in about 30 minutes. Bad case of the flu.

Thanks guys!!!

Brian, If you want someone to look at them before they ship them back to you let me know. About an hour drive from my place.

Thank you Jim...but believe it or not...I feel very confident with this guy. I really don't feel that he will send me back a piece of crap. I don't know why I have a good feeling about this company...I just do.

Funny part is...I used to live just about 8 miles from this place back in the early 90's.

I actually started this thread to see if anyone else had decided to go the route I was going and if they were happy with the results.

I guess not many have tried it or have opted for a different type of wheel. I just have to keep an original rim on my 97. I know...I know...I am supposed to be running the painted Silver rims I have up on a shelf. I just love the look of the chrome.:tu:

Thanks again guys!!!

Brian;-)
