View Full Version : Prowler Vs Corvette Poll

We have often heard of Prowler folks migrating to a Corvette. What do you think?
Is it a worthwhile change?
Is it an upgrade or downgrade?
Which is the babe-magnet?
Let's put it to a test via a poll. There's two pictures at the Rosebowl in Pasadena. 2 Prowlers vs 2 Corvettes.
You decide! :devil :devil :devil

Worth the change ...... for POWER maybe :-|
Upgrade or downgrade ....... judging how many bo-ring vettes you see while going on the interstate I'd say DOWNGRADE
Babe Magnet.......... since every OTHER drives a Corvette and a Corvette is as exciting to look at as a Lexus ........MY vote goes to the Prowler (wow, what a shocker :devil)

I tend to gravitate to something not everyone has. While we like the Vette, it is just too common. Park a Vette beside a Prowler anytime anywhere and see which one gets the most attention. Unless it is with a Corvette club, the kat will win hands down.

Today's Corvette is a better overall "car", they have been building them since 1953. They have had plenty of time to make it into what it is today, a real good "car". They don't stand out any more than a Miata or Boxster or a VW Bug. They do perform well and I wouldn't mind having one but I wouldn't give up my Prowler for one.
You won't find a vehicle for the money that gets more attention than a Prowler.
Now if the poll was Prowler vs Viper, it would be close but the Prowler still wins!

The pics above were actually taken from a friend of Paul (Kruizin Kat) and I. We keep trying to get him to come and visit everyone at Prowltalk...but i think he's just so busy. His name is Charlie and he lives down by Cape Cod, MA.
To add to your Prowler vs. a Vette poll...I have met so many cool people that own Prowlers!!! Can the Vette owners say the same:?:
I have found the Prowler owners are always there to answer a question that someone has about their beautiful kat.:tu:
I mean how many Vette owners do you see carrying around several toy Prowlers to hand out to the kids.
Hmmm...how come they don't mass produce 1/64th scale toy Vettes:?: :rll:

I think there is a little prejudice to this question, at every cruise there are always a lot of vettes and they are a really nice car and well designed but a different animal to the prowler. Plus every vette club member I have met are not as friendly as any prowler owner I have met. IMO

Wow! This is awesome! I didn't expect such responses but it shows what a great bunch Prowler folks are and how freedom of speech does work on this site with no crazy bashing!
Just wanted to put my $0.02:
1. I posted this poll for several reasons:
a. Some PTalk folks like to see cuties with Prowlers (u know who you are!)
b. I thought it was great that there were actually 2 Vettes and 2 dudes at the exact time we went for a little cruise...makes a great teaser joke/poll.
2. This poll was in no means to trash the Vette. As folks have mentioned, its a very likable car, great value and an option that some of PTalk's old-timers have traded in their Kats for (but for very good reasons: lack of mechanical/technical/dealer support in their area). Of course there's folks that went the other way (Sno/Chris) and haven't looked back! :tu:
3. Its actually great that the poll result is not 20:0 in favor of the Prowler. Shows that Prowler folks appreciate good cars. This will NOT happen on any other car-specific forum. (anyone wanna post this on a Vette forum?)
4. Mr McGoo/TooHip are right. Another reason that spurred this poll was the arrogance of those two Vette owners. I acknowledged them but they were complete snobs. Interestingly, every Ferrari person we have met in snobbish-fake LA has always been friendly and given us thumbs-up.
5. And right on by MoparDave/Krusin'! For folks who don't know, the Rose Bowl is also a popular weekend jogging/cycling site. We have folks running/cycling up to us to check out and ask abt the car (I still hate it when the most common question is 'Does it have a V8?'). I think the kats got more attention than the gals :rll:
No jogger/cyclist went up to the Vette guys. The Vettes just took off after, not even a 'hi'. That said, I used to be in the Miata club and they arnt' even close to the friendliness of Prowler folks either.
5. As for the getting attention and the 'babe' magnet factors...I think the Prowler whoop the Vette like the Globetrotters slapping the LA Clippers silly. Two out-of-towner cuties (u only see one in the pic) completely went nutz when the garage door opened and saw the two kats sitting there. Photo taking and questions about the kats were non-stop.
And how can you say 'no' when cuties ask for a ride to take more pics? (It was near impossible to tell them to NOT touch the Prowler's paint...lodsa finger prints to Meguiar's after)
6. Finally, having the Prowler as a daily driver has made being stuck in LA's crappy traffic something actually enjoyable! Its absolutely great when someone next to you rolls down the window and ask 'Hey! Does it have a V8?'
p.s. Maybe MoparDave, Pepe and I should cruise down Sunset Strip in LaLa Land on a weekend night and see which Prowler color gets the most actress-wanna-be's on the hood? We might need a pre-cruise poll :rll:
:nana2 Thanks guys for being YOU! :nana2

As a present owner of both a Prowler and a Corvette I think both cars, are a work of art, I would hate to choose one over the other. I like the looks of the prowler better, and when both cars are parked together, the prowler gets more looks. I like the idea of only about 11K prowlers builded, and there are about 2 Million vettes builded and still counting. There is a vette on every corner and only two Prowlers in my town. The Corvette is a much better handling, more power, and the ride is much better. The new C6 Corvette rides almost as good as my Caddy. Corvettes had alot of quility problem in the late 70's and all of the 80's (remember the Crossfire) and putting out only a low of 165 HP in 75 and a high of 245 HP in 89. But the Corvette has come along ways with the new C6 with handling, power ( 400 HP in base corvette, and 505 HP in Z06) and pricing. But if I only had room in my garage for 1 toy, I think the Vette would have to set outside in the rain and snow. Also Prowler Owners are more friendly. IMO

Lynn and I decided to take a drive to the park where the nationals car show was held. We got their late so they parked us with the vettes. Not a good idea, the owners of the vettes didn't like the idea of the public passing their vehicles and looking at the prowler. Guess What? Some of them left. Made for an interesting day.

Funny thing happened to me about a month ago...On my last outting with the kat. I was cruising home from a day out in the sun when I come up on a yellow Lambo coming the opposite direction. Like most folks I'm a huge Lambo admirer, and was checkin' this thing out. As they got closer I noticed the driver pointing ME out to the passenger in his car! Then as we pass he gives me a wave. I of course, waved back, but I was like, here is a car I'd give my left arm for, and he's making sure his passenger see's my car!

ahhh this is where the difference is....
The Vette drivers usually point to something in the opposite direction of the Prowler so their hot blonde passenger doesn't see the Kat...
The BMW drivers and passengers usually act like the Prowler is invisible...lol

Depends on what you're looking for.... The vette is a great all around car. I just picked up a C6 on Monday... I actually like driving it better than my viper as far as overall drivability goes. It's more like driving a cadillac to me. It's quiet inside, doesn't rattle, and actually the ride is not all that bad. The Viper still wins though if you throw in the exotic attention factor. I'm actually pretty surprised at how much attention the vette does get from other folks though. I never paid much attention to them, but I guess other people do.
The prowler is a great car, but overall I would have to place it third on the list. Viper, Vette, Prowler.

In this town,,,,Corvettes are boring on the streets,,thousands of them. Now, they just blend in with the Camrys and Accords, lol. You guys just think they are a better car,,,when actually, they are still a GM product with multiple problems >>> working for Delco Parts Company gives me that reality vision that most never see. My last Vette, C4 '96 was fast,,,,but the Prowler is excitement and a passion. Now,,,,,look at resale value of a regular C3,C4,C5,C6 Vettes >> terrible.
New? Are you kidding me,,,,,dealers are stockpiled with them here,,,,,, fire sales all over the place to empty them out. May as well buy a Colbalt and save some $$$.

speaking for myself only, I liked the older Vettes from the 60's, but never was a big fan of the newer styles.... If I were buying something new my cash would be on the Stang or the Challenger.... with 3rd and fourth choice to the Sky and the Solstice( black only)...

Over the years, I have owned over 30 Corvettes long enough to have a Title in my name. And thats not counting all the Vettes I bought and sold without transferring the paper...I have to say that I enjoy my Prowler more than any Vette I ever had. The main reason is because there is not a Prowler on every corner like the Corvettes. I do miss the Power of the V-8 Vettes, but only a little.... :tu:

I own a 96 C4 Corvette which I own since new ,never had a major problem with it .Drives and handles better, more power than the Prowler. But in the past 8 months that I own the Prowler I never had as much fun,met the best people and traveled so much with the those people that share the same passion for the car as I do.

Having owned several Corvettes before my Prowler, they are really different vehicles belonging in different classes. The Corvette is a race car toned down for public consumption. The Prowler is a show boat. Different cars for different purposes.
I'd still rather keep my Prowler than own a Corvette.

I like the looks of the Vette but I'd probably never buy one, especially if it meant giving up the Prowler. If I was to add another car and was in the market for a high performance car, I'd opt for the used Viper before I'd consider a Vette.
One of my co-workers drives a new Vette and my next door neighbor has one of the new high-perforamance Vettes (C6?). Chevy has done a great job with the performance and styling, but like a lot of others have said here, there's just too many around...

ANOTHER reason I'd never trade a Vette vs. the Prowler:
On your next roadtrip going somewhere .... pay attention on HOW many Prowler's you
will see and HOW many Vettes ........ 'nuff said
Last time we drove to ATL we saw about 20 Vettes on I-75 and 0 (zero) Prowlers ;-)
Then it just means that you like the prowler because its rare?
I would because it's hella fun and looks great. Even if there were dozens of thousands on the road.

From experience. I replaced my 99 C5 Convertible with the Prowler. The vette was more practical, could hold a suitcase and better for longer drives. But the Prowler is 100x better for driving around town. For a pure toy, Prowler wins.. hands down..

i enjoy both the prowler and my 2003 corvette. as stated above, far fewer prowlers in existence, so rarity does rule. what i find interesting about vett owners is that although they may not acknowkedge priwler owners, they almost always wave to their fellow corvette owners. go figure??? i would also like to comment on the tiresome 6 cylinder issue. all of who own the Kat realize that 253 horses careens the car down the highway rather quickly because of the less than 3000 pounds the car weighs before i climb into the drivers seat!! if these people drove the car, they would see how quick they are.:bows

i don't think you can compare a vette to a prowler. e vette is "the" us-sport car which is on the market for over 50 years. but in this case it's allready become a NORMAL car on the road. without dout the vette is better car as power but i think that's not all that counts. the prowler is such a "strange" car. everywere i go i got people smile, old and young, it's for shure a headturner.
even down here in italy and just 3 miles away from maranello the prowler stells the looks. i bought my kat last year in november and just love it. just to have such a awesome car in looks and style that you will not see on the road everyday (overall down here in europe) is great. just three words "JUST LOVE IT" :tu::tu:

Depends totally on your criteria.
If exclusivity and "look at me" factor is the main reason you drive a car then the prowler is likley your candidate.
If you drive a car because you enjoy the expereince of driving a performance car then the prowler doesn't have a chance. If you enjoy torque and handling then the corvette is the right car. As far as Im concerned the car and I could both beinvisible - its about driving.
In the Corvette world there are a HUGE subset of owners that are referred to as waxers. They never drive the car, just wash it wax it and look at it.
When I bought my C6 I could have bought a lot of different cars. The vette is the best sports car for the money available. The important thing is it puts a grin on my face every time I drive it. If your prowler does that for you then you have the right car
reagrding the link to the vette forum - I never understood people getting upset because someone you dont know in a vaguely similar car didn't wave to you. I guess its because I dont drive the car to be seen. Since people expect a wave from every other vette owner why not every GM owner ? Heck lets all wave to everyone.....

OK, as a loooooong time Vette owner and enthusiast, as well as a loooong time Prowler owner and fan, here is an observation no one mentioned yet ...
With Vette ownership comes "the wave". Yes, you know it ... pass another Vette, and if the owner is worth his weight in fiberglass, they will wave at you and you at them.
With Prowler ownership come the "Wow, look at that!" finger point. Yes, you know it, even AS a Prowler owner, and since they are as scarce as a Lamborghini on the road, we all stare and point EVEN when behind the wheel of our own car!!
As to choosing between the two ... I just let one of my daughters pick which they want to ride in. Two different cars designed for two different purposes, but BOTH worth enjoying mile after smile!

Its simple, as you own the prowler you age, thus your penis shrinks and you need more compensation for it, so you buy a vette.
I tend to get crap from vette guys in a club up here. I had a guy approach me at a gas station in his 2006 whatever copycat vette and proceed to give me every statistic about how fas he goes blah blah blah... so i said to him, "well, if you drive by here at 200 mph people will say....'thats cool', but if i pull in here at 5 mph, people will run up saying "THATS FUCKING COOOOOL!", he just turned and walked away..

I've had 14 Vettes from '63 Split Windows to C-5 convertibles and I'm completely over them. Vettes are like assholes - everyone's got one !

I can say that I proudly drive both my Kat and my 06 Vette. They are 2 totally different cars and it depends on the mood. I'll be 28 next month (and I know I am gonna get grief for saying this) but I prefer my Vette, I have a lot more money put into it so far and I am very much a speed lover. I think years down the road when I am more content to just cruise and not race I'll pick my Kat.

And now you sound like the people that attended CAAP I in 1999. "Hi, I am an Viper owner, when will you put ABS on the Prowler oh, and the Viper". "Why is the ride so rough on a Prowler compared to my sedan."
Come on ... you are smartwer than that. Vette, HANDS DOWN, is a better VALUE than a Viper ... for all around performance, speed, agility, comfort, and STORAGE ... BUT Viper is unique, or WAS ... whereas Vette is reallt not (which is what killed the Old ZR-1 ... too similiar in looks to standard vetter, same as now again --- duh, GM!)
Still can't see trying to compare Vette OR a Viper to Prowler ... why not SSR to Prowler or T-Bird ... all three going nostalgia, 2-seater, etc.
My 2 cents:burnout

Prowler vs Corvette?????
Totally depends on what you want the car for - daily driver, cruiser, attention, street racing, drag racing (track), weekend car, car show entry, etc.
Personally I like to own a Viper convertible, a C6 Corvette convertible, my SSR (with more power mods), and another Prowler!:tu::tu:

I love my old 62, although it is a pain in the ass to drive, heavy duty 4 speed, low gears and rides like a old truck

No offense taken. No Vettes owned anymore, like I said I'm over them. Being an early salary retiree that spent my entire life at GM, I purchased every one of them. The last 6 of them, C-5's were only owned for 6 months a piece as that was the requirement at that time and the economy was rockin' so you could make several thousand $$ a car even though you were driving it daily. GM eventually got wise and changed the requirement to maintain the vehicle in your name to two years therefore making it a bad investment in addition to the economy going to shit.
