Thought this would be of special interest to any who have ties with anyone who served during World War II.
This is a friend from Key Largo FL who is the sculptor for this project in Savannah GA.

Key Largo sculptor Kim Brandell has fashioned bronze and other metals into giant globe sculptures for the likes of Donald Trump and for the Port of Miami.
His current project, a 12-ton, 21-foot diameter globe, separated into two hemispheres, will adorn the popular River Walk in Savannah, Ga. The piece will include some 500 names of people from the area that served in the armed forces during World War II. The names will be on a plaque that will be on the inside of the globe halves.
The hemispheres are separated to represent the two theaters of operation — Europe and the Pacific — where U.S. and allied servicemen fought the German, Italian and Japanese Axis countries during the war.
The massive pieces, built in a boat yard behind Froggy’s Gym in Tavernier, were scheduled to be shrink-wrapped this week and then taken to Georgia by tractor-trailer. After they arrive, marble, landscaping and the plaque still must be installed.
“There’s still a lot that has to be done when it leaves here,” Brandell said.
Brandell, 59, has been sculpting for 35 years. He’s originally from Miami Beach, but has been living and working in the Keys for 15 years. This globe, his sixth, is the first one that is solid. The others, including four that decorate Trump properties throughout the nation, are what he calls “unispheres.” They are made of connected steel bars with solid continents welded onto them.
The largest, in front of Trump’s International Hotel in Manhattan, is 30 feet in diameter.
Brandell had planned on building a globe to be placed underwater off Miami, at the Neptune Memorial Reef, but that project, for now, has become a victim of the bad economy.
