SEE UPDATE BELOW IN NEW POST IN THIS THREAD!

In memory of our beloved fellow FL Kat Packer who has passed, Jim Warner, I offer you a wonderful weekend in May. The event will be called the "Jim Warner Sunrise to Sunset Cruise".Jim and I had talked many times of putting together an event like this but we could never finish the job. Well it is now finished and ready thanks to a lot of work by Bob and Mo Swearingen with the west coast leg of the cruise.
I hope all that can join us, do. You will not be disappointed I'm sure. Please look to the Event Discussion page for further details. Please book your rooms at the Spring Hill Quality Inn soon. Daytona Beach bookings will be available soon after the end of the race (Daytona 500) when we can get with the hotel.
Due to the overwhelming demand for quality events in FL, we have decided on this weekend Cruise to start the year off.
The short of it is this: We will meet in Daytona Beach on Friday night, stay over and watch the sunrise. Later that morning after checking out of our hotel, we will start our cruise over to the west coast of FL, taking as many of the less traveled smaller roads as possible.
We will stop in The Villages for lunch and gas, then continue to the west coast, stopping to see the manatee show in and around Homosassa Springs.
We will then travel south to Spring Hill, home of Weeki Watchee Springs and the attraction. Back to the hotel and dinner and after dinner a cruise to see the sunset. Back to the hotel for a night of socializing, etc.
If interested, we have a group rate for Weeki Watchee Springs attraction for Sunday for those wanting to do that after breakfast.
All in all this is going to be an event to remember for FL. Make your plans now and don't miss this inaugural event May 14-16, 2010

Day 1
For those coming from a longer distance , we will meet in Daytona Beach on Friday night at the hotel (details on that hotel TBA). We will have a group dinner at 7PM.

Day 2
Sunrise at approximately 6:32 AM. Those wishing for a photo opt with the sunrise can meet and we'll cruise to a spot for that. Back to the hotel for breakfast and then a leaving time of 9:30 AM.

We will leave Daytona and travel west stopping in The Villages for lunch and gassing up the Kats. After lunch we will continue our journey west to the Wildlife Park and the Manatees.

After the Park, we will again drive south for about 1/2 hour to the hotel.

After dinner is over, we will drive over to Pine Island for the sunset and photo opt at 8:14 PM. After that, back to the hotel for socializing in the lobby or at the lounge w/entertainment.

Day 3
Optional: On Sunday, we have arranged for a group rate at Weeki Watchee Springs attraction for $9 per person. The attraction is across from the hotel.

If this was posted a few months ago we would be there, Jim is one of the greats and this summer I will take him with us on many cruises with me. R.I.P Jim, our friend!

Put me in for next year and get me those dates as soon as you know them :tu:

We hope this will be the event to remember and exciting and interesting to all. Sorry if the time was short for some, but this all came together during our last event in Lake Wales. With help we put it all together and had a good amount of interest between the 20 Kats at the event, so we went ahead and made the arrangements and date.

For those who cannot make the event this year, keep May 13-15, 2011 open for the next one!

That would definitely add to the inaugural event. If you guys can swing it, we're glad to have you all come down and join the rest of us!

Hopefully, in the next 2 weeks I will have the Daytona accommodations set-up. Hard to do anything here during speed weeks!

It's a great time of the year with low humidity and just about 0% chance of rain (usually). As far as I'm concerned, as long as I can, I will promote this event in the name of my buddy, Jim Warner.

The best part is going to be the cruising from the east to the west. I think the route (even for FL!) will really widen those Kat eyes and I'll bet they'll all be talking about it for weeks and months to come.

Dinner Friday night in Daytona, watch the sun rise Saturday morning, head out to the west coast later that morning through some of the nicest scenic back roads in N Central FL, lunch in The Villages, west to the see the Manatees, dinner in Spring Hill and watch the sunset later that night with a nightcap at the local bar with live music.

What more can you ask for!

We'll meet at lunch on Saturday and I will contact a few others not on your list to see if they have any interest in case they have missed this thread or your newsletter.
Post details for the meeting place at The Villages when you get them.

Thx.

I will post the meeting place in The Villages when I get the place for lunch. I'm going over there in about a month, plenty of time to advise on the location.

I will have to say, the drive over to The Villages will probably be the highlight of the trip as it pertains to the cruising part. It is a fantastic back road type of winding road, but understand if you or others cannot make it to Daytona.

I will have all details yet to come here and through the email list no later than May 1st. I will actually be riding the route on 4/24 to make sure that we have no detours, etc. and to make sure we are taking the most scenic route possible.

As for those that may not know of the event, please advise them if you know they may be interested in the event. I have tried all the ways I know to get more involvement.

An update:Reservations need to be made in Spring Hill at the Quality Inn by April 30th for the discounted rate. See the original post for telephone number and address.

We'll be leaving the Daytona Beach area at 9:30 AM sharp and stopping in The Villages for lunch by about 11:45 AM. The restaurant is at the Nancy Lopez course on Buena Vista Blvd. Take SR 42 to Buena Vista Blvd and go south less than 1 mile and the restaurant/clubhouse is on the left.

After lunch, we'll drive over to the west coast and arrive at the Manatee Attraction at about 3:00 PM and the boat will be leaving at 3:30 PM.

After the boat trip we'll be leaving the Attraction by about 5PM and heading to the hotel (20 minutes) and dinner is at 6PM.

Your choice as to where to pick up the group...Daytona, The Villages or the Manatee Attraction in Homosassa Springs on US 19/98.

Times:
Daytona 9:45am
The Villages 11:45 am
Homosassa Springs attraction: 3:00PM

Please email me at: flkatpack@cfl.rr.com and let me know your intentions. I need to make final arrangements at the restaurants for the number of attendees.

Those going to the Manatee attraction....we need to collect $10 per person for the attraction prior to our arrival there. We'll collect that money in The Villages at lunch time.

Those that have walkies, bring them and we'll be able to communicate on the ride over.

So far I have about 26 people for dinner in Daytona on Friday. We'll leave for dinner from the hotel (I-95 and SR421 in Port Orange) at 6:45PM with just a few minute trip to the restaurant.

With a half dozen more meeting up with us in The Villages on Saturday.

For a change....there is expected to be NO RAIN in the forecast for a Prowler event. Go figure! Let's hope it stays that way. I chose the dates based on that and it looks promising albeit a little on the warm side.

Looking forward to seeing everyone again as it has been too long for most of us.

Good news for everyone that will be in on the Cruise....On Sunday morning, the Weeki Watchee attraction will be free for all FL Kat members if you wish to stay and enjoy the attraction. Also, it'll be homecoming weekend when all the former mermaids come home to Weeki Watchee. Sounds really great! Attraction opens at 10AM

Jay, is this a new mod & what will it help or do?

katmat...
Jay says it is not a new mod and probably one of the original Prowler modifications. It stiffens the front end by preventing the shock/springs from flexing.

The weekend has started on the Jim Warner "Sunrise to Sunset Cruise". Friday nights dinner was very well attended and everybody enjoyed socializing again after a long cold winter. Good to see some old faces and a few new ones also. The hardy ventured out at 6 AM this morning for a quick drive to the beach for the sunrise. Some pics to follow:

Here we go ag
And finally what we came to see on Sunday...The Mermaids! It was really special as the Mermaids were past ones from years ago. The youngest was 55 and the oldest, 79. They put on a great show.
I know I have been getting a lot of thanks for the event, but I have to thank Denise Warner for The Villages leg and of course Bob and Mo for the West Coast leg. It was a lot of fun packed into a few days and our memorial cruise to celebrate our dear fiend Jim Warner went on without a hitch and the weather was great....no rain until those traveling south hit some on the way home. Sorry guys!
Well, we're already planning next years Memorial Cruise and it should be a dandy one also. Hope more of you can attend. We had a very good showing of FL Kats and one from GA. It was nice to see you all again and as they say on TV....stay tuned for clips of next years event!
