View Full Version : Do you actually remember ??
.... WHEN you saw the Prowler for the first time ?
How long AFTER that did you buy your Kat ??
As for me/us we saw our first Prowler back in 2001, we were actually following one
with our Mustang, it was a Mulholland one and it looked just AWESOME.
Even though I have 'seen' the Prowler on TV prior to 2001 I never really cared much
for it until I saw it driving in front of us.
About 6 months later we traded in our 35th Anniv. Mustang Convertible

I don't recall the year, but it was the first year that it was shown at Chryslers at Carlisle. I am guessing 1994-95. Ordered one from the dealer the following Monday, took delivery of a '97 purple in February of '98, sold it the same day without ever driving it and took delivery of the yellow in July 1998.

I seen one outside at a dealer one night in the fall and tried to look into it but it was to dark, I went back a weak latter and it was gone. The next spring a friend showed me his he had bought, And I Owen one in the spring of 2002.
Come to find out I bought the fastest color, Yellow it took me a couple try's to get it but it worked. i bought it over the phone sight unseen. The car was about 200 miles away and I did not have time to buy it in person. So I had a friend that drove cars for the dealer, He said he would bring it to me and I can give him the check ( made out to the dealer) and he would handle the deal. We had agreed on the phone how much to pay. ( invoice) they were asking above sticker for 9 months. There floor plan was running out and they would have to start to pay interest. So they took my bad check for it.
That's my story short, sweet and to the point. With just a little bullshit.:rll:

Chrysler was major sponsor of the Kentucky Derby in the mid 90's. In about 94 or 95 they brought the concept car to Churchill Downs and our company built the stage to set it on. I told family and friend's I would one some day. When I bought ours in April 2001 I had never sat in one nor even seen the interior of one. I saw a Purple driving down the highway in Houston in 2000 but that was all until we bought ours.

Saw the first one when the 97's were released. The dealer around the corner had it in the showroom all roped off. He had a price in the window of $80K. I stopped and looked at it every week it was there. Never thought of owning one or even saw one again until 2005. I bought mine that summer. Purple always the original and still the best

saw the 1st on in 97-98, a purple one, going down the highway. made up my mind right there that I would someday own one. Didn't see another until '07 as the group was here to dig up the buried chrysler, saw one with a trailer going down the highway, owned one within a month of my second sighting:biggrin:

Bunch of great stories here - keep 'em coming !
Saw a 97 at the dealership where I would evenually buy mine... They had it stickered at 75K... and sold it for that... to a local ... (But that's ANOTHER story!)....
Never even considered them (at that mark-up) until one day in early February 02 when I drove my 'company car' into the same dealership for service, and while meandering around saw MY car... two days later it was mine. NO mark-up.
Everybody's happy :)
Drove it to a dear friend's house, parked it in his garage for a month, then off to Texas for the Bluebonnet Cruise with less than 250 miles on it when we left, and over 3000 on it when we got back! And we left on Friday and back on Sunday! LOL what a trip!!! Probably never be another one quite like that one, though Ol' Yeller has now made 5 cross-country trips :)
.......
as to the 'other' story.. the lady that bought the 97... rarely drives it... saw her in about 04-05 and she had less than 4000 miles on it... and it was FILTHY! Really ticked me off! Oh well.... she obviously didn't "GET IT" ....
probably still p*ssed she paid so much for it!! LOL

Saw the first one at a dealer in 1997. Liked it but jacked up to much. 2001 the dealer had a yellow and black one ,still was not motivated. Next week they called me up and said another one came in different color. Oh well , went down saw the orange(pumpkin) bought it on the spot. :tu::tu::tu::tu:

I had seen a couple at the Detroit Auto Show in (probably the concept...) in 94-95-ish but never really wanted one. With three kids, wife, house, etc. I really didn't think buying one was in my future. Then, after 9-11, I got the bug. It actually started when I saw an American flag, painted to look like it was waving, on a wall at an upscale shopping area we go to a lot. I thought that would look cool painted on a car, and the Prowler popped into my mind since it seemed to represent everything great about America. I started researching them - found POA - and lurked for about a year or so. I found Prowler owners to be a great group of people and started looking on eBay for months. Finally mine popped up two weeks before Christmas 2003. I went and looked at it, offered an insultingly low price for a near-perfect Kat with only 580 miles on it, and the owner accepted it! I went home and told my (surprised) wife I bought a Prowler that night. I drove it home a week later in the snow - the first time it had EVER been wet.

Never saw one in person before I bought one. Saw some pictures on the Net. Found one at a dealer in Mena Arkansas. Dealer wanted sticker. I bought it over the phone and had it shipped home. It was either the Prowler or another Vette. Easy decision.

Saw it for the first time at the new car show at the SuperDome in early 1997. Put my order in the next day. Received the first one in lower Louisiana in 1998. Two other dealers received one each a week later and the bids were at 103,000 at one and the other was at 97,000. I was offered 95,000 for mine a week after I bought it.

...if I saw a real one before this, I really don't remember it
...a friend of mine bought a purple Prowler in the summer of '98, he came by to let me drive it...we took it out for top end run (he was afraid to drive it fast due to too many speeding tickets, so I drove)...midnight, 4 lane road, no traffic and we hit it as hard as it would go for several miles, barely hit 120 mph...I wasn't impressed with the Prowlers at all in the beginning, I was into Vipers and had already owned several
...probably 4-5 months later before I purchased my first one, a '99 Black

I went to the Cleveland auto show & saw one in 95 or 96. Got put on the mailing list, but like everyone said they were selling way over list. Put it on the back burner until I was at Woodward in 2005. I was driving down Woodward in my 59 Galaxie, when I saw you guys. I think there was 70 + Prowlers on Woodward, down by Pontiac. I told Bonnie that I was getting one. Two weeks later we flew to Chicago & drove one home. Having fun ever since.

I too had seen the prototype at the Chicago Auto Show in the early 90s. I was hooked from that moment on. I knew that if they ever made THAT car, I was gonna get one. When I found out that Chrysler was going to ACTUALLY BUILD IT, I WAS STAR STRUCK.
In 1999, I was at a dealership in Chicago and sat down in a beautiful yellow. I came within inches of buying that car but bought a building instead.
In 2004, I COULDN'T TAKE IT ANY LONGER. I HAD TO HAVE ONE. I couldn't decide between the yellow and the Inca Gold. I have ALWAYS loved the yellow because it reminded me of the car from "American Graffitti". A coworker helped me decide. He said, "Get the gold car, there's a bunch of yellow cars out there already".
And THAT WAS IT. But I had never seen an Inca Gold in person.
I saw one on Ebay that a Chrysler dealer in Oregon was selling. I called them up and they shipped the car out to me within a month. The waiting for that car was UNBEARABLE. When it finally got here, it came by truck. The truck had to pull near a Jaguar dealer near the expressway since it couldn't make it down the street. I took a cab to the truck. When the driver gave me the keys and told me to drive the car off of the truck I ALMOST DIED. I was astounded of how beautiful this car was AND IT WAS FINALLY MINE. The gold just glistened in the night.
My love affair with this car hasn't waned since. I've owned some very nice cars in my lifetime, but this car still is my all time favorite.

Saw the concept car at the '93 Chicago Auto Show 1st Look event ... always loved the Viper, but could never afford the $$ . With Prowler to be priced in the $30's (HA!), I set out to own one and put a deposit down immediately with Roanoke Motors ... ended up buying the Go Kart from him, but not my '99 yellow (bought in Fall of '98). I was an early adopter, yes paid over sticker (but not insane money), but never looked back. Am happy with the car, the color and all the friends that are located all around the country and world (Keyes from Holland) that have come along with the ownership of this very cool piece of rolling art. :tu::beer:

My wife and I had the opportunity to rent a Purple 99 on our 10th wedding anniversary. We went out to eat that night and had a blast. That's the first time I ever drove one.
I know...the windows are up. This was the 1st time I ever drove a convertable.
Please excuse the grub laden grass in the pic below...lol.

We then moved back out to Southern CA for a few years. When we moved back to NH I asked my wife if I could get another toy...after selling my Mustang before we left. After pleading with her extensively...she let me get my beautiful 97 kat! I only had to travel down to the state of RI to see it and eventually pick it up.
After just buying our house in NH it took some creative financing to buy this kat.
BTW...she let me buy it on our 15th anniversary. :tu::bows
She also picked up a beautiful diamond ring to also commemorate our wedding anniversary. She definitely deserved it.
Here is the original pic that was posted in the AutoTrader ad back in 2004.:tu:
Yes...my kat came with a set of flaking chrome rims already on it.

Am not aware if I had ever seen one before.
Became aware of the Prowler when surfing the net for
P T Cruiser aftermarket parts. Said, "Prowler? What's
that?" upon seeing a link for them. Guess I just stared &
stared some more. Then I started to notice the differences
between them: the mods.
If anything from experience with the two PTs I did know
aftermarket parts to a pretty good extent. Studied the
available ones mainly on E-Bay Motors. It was down between
a silver one in Maryland with many nice mods & my current
Candy Red. Already had a silver car, so went with what I
now own.
So the very first time I laid eyes on one in person was
the day I picked it up in Staten Island in August, 2008.
