I just went out to the Kat to start it up and let her warm up. I do this every week all winter....
I guess I must have locked the doors last time I was in the car, something i never do, and just realized that without being able to get the hood open if the doors were locked, what would I do if the battery went totally dead ?
any ideas ?

Can't the car be unlocked with a key unless you have removed the outside handles? But as a precaution, I always pop the hoods on my parked cars so they rest on the secondary catch.

my only defence is that in the 2 1/2 years i've owned the car, i don't think i've ever used the key to unlock the door, always the remote..
here is the funny part... when I read Daves answer, i had to look at the car to make sure there was a keyhole for putting the key in, there was....then I could feel my face getting red...

anyone ever get in a car thinking it was yours and wonder why the key doesn't work, then you realizre its not your car, just one that looks like it....
obviously this wouldn't happen to a Prowler but i've done it to a burgandy colored Tempo years ago....there was some old woman in the back seat that said "your in the wrong car"......
scared the shit right out of me...what a rush !:rll:

I had the same experience when I owned a 1989 Dodge Spirit....except my key would open the trunk! I put my stuff in the trunk, got in the car and found out it wasn't mine!

When i was sitting in the Tempo before the old woman spoke up , i was looking a bunch of bags of groceries on the passenger seat thinking "who's are these ? "....
good thing she didn't have a tazer or something....

Jim,
Back in the 1960's some one double parked their Chevrolet and blocked my Corvair in . I went to his car put in my Corvair key in the door lock. It opened his door, started his car and moved it. Moved mine out and put his back on the ouside of my space, locked his car and left.
I always wondered what he thought when he arrived back and saw the car he blocked in was gone!
Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
What a way to end the year. You are truly Mortal for only humans are not perfect.

When I had the first flat tire, went to a GoodYear store and of course "they had an EMT expert, threw them the keys. Guy says where is the spare, being a smart a$$ I say in the trunk. Dude come out in 10 min. to tell me the trunk lock had been removed and the deck smoothed. Took the keys back and found a good qualified EMT specialist at another dealer.

When I first got my Larry Lord trailer stand, I had the trailer sitting up on it for the first time. The Prowler was in the garage behind it and the door was open so you could see it. The neighbor comes over and asks me why I cut my car in half....he had never seen a square drive shaft before (it was the trailer tongue).

...I store all my cars unlocked, keys inside and the windows down....
...several years ago, my wife left her hotel in Scottsdale, went to the airport in Phoenix and discovered the rent a ride she was returning was the WRONG CAR....she was detained for quite a while and was released only when they found HER rent a ride at the hotel like she said it was....same car, same color, same key and they were parked just a few spaces from each other....
I just went out to the Kat to start it up and let her warm up. I do this every week all winter....

I was giving a prowler ride to my brother-in-law's father from Milwaukee this christmas, and he told me a story of a friend of his that had a 1970 cuda (mint perfect condition), and they took it out one night like 15 years ago or so and they got hammered. He had picked up 5 pounds of shrimp and came home and completely forgot about it. Winter was coming so he put the car away in storage for the winter, only to be called in April from the place it was stored at that people were complaining about a smell they though was from his car. He found the shrimp in the trunk and had to completely GUT anything non-metal in the car. Upholstery, carpet, etc. - LOL - funny since it wasn't me.

Jimbo - I have to apologize for crowing on you about this thread,,,sh!t can happen.
I had a driver's side window regulator go out a while back,,replaced under warranty [warranty now expired, 12-27-06]. Instead of setting the alarm when we park the cars,,,,,we lock them manually with the inside door lock before closing the door. Usually,,,I use the remote to unlock the doors as I'm approaching them, but today, I used the key to unlock the driver's door >>>> NOTHING. The key would move left or right, but did not unlock the door!! The manual unlock feature with the key didn't work,,,,so this brings me back to this topic. Could the tech have messed something up inside the door panel that causes this to happen??
When using the remote control,,,,I can unlock the door,,,,,,but not with the key.
Any ideas from anyone who has had the door panels off?
thanks in advance for any input.
Now that I'm out of warranty,,,,they will probably tell me its something unrelated to replacing the window regulator,,,,but I know the key would open the door before that fix.

Hey thats OK.... it was pretty funny....sometimes I.B. Stoopid..lol
For all I know mine may not work either as I have never unlocked it with the key...
if it were something that was not hooked up at the time of repair, then the key would probably turn, but do nothing.... could be seized from not being used ? I had a door lock at work do that last week, a little WD40 and it was good as new...
maybe someone that has seen the inside of the door will have some ideas..
good luck !
