 The Verdict is in… Cheap and Cheesy!!!

Well, maybe not all that bad!

But these Gauge Rings and Dash Trim set is not for everyone….

After reading the poorly written and vague instructions I held all the pieces up in place and was shaking my head the whole time. I almost was going to send them back but proceeded with caution after peeling the coating off one trim piece and getting a feel for the overall finished look installed.

There is no comparison to the precision, jewelry quality; o-ring fitted Polished Stainless Steel Gauge Rings that Master Obi wan produces. Hands down the Best, and a quality product that everyone speaks highly of.

I saw a set on a yellow Prowler on the Cannon Beach Run and was very impressed with the look! Really nice! It moved right to the top of my wish list for my next Prowler mod.

And it was only $250.00… If I was working it might not sound like so much? A very nice look for a couple of bills.

Then I stumbled across this kit at about half the price with the little extra polished dash pieces and I liked the concept and the initial look.

I knew from the start that these were a flat stick-on dash ring and that the trim would be flexible sticky-sided, thin stainless trim, and asked questions of the seller before ordering.

The speedometer ring is slightly small in my opinion but adding the cove trim first, takes up some of the gap but not all of it.

As some one else pointed out you can see the gauge increments beyond the edge of the ring in their sales ad for these, indicating the ring is a little small in diameter as mentioned. Make sure to position it strategically to minimize the gap.

I decided I could live with that and proceeded with the install. I got out a bright work light on a stand so I could see what I was doing well.

I did the trial fit and cleaning as requested. Although I did not use soap and water on the rings as per the instructions, I used my Meguiars Quick Detailer on the rings with micro-fiber towels.

Please note that this is a fairly permanent installation. Once you stick those puppies down, they are stuck on there! I had to adjust the position a couple of times on the rings and the cove pieces and they come up very hard with very little pressure having been applied, Trying to maneuver them into position is tricky with them being so tacky.

The rings will bend if you stick them down and try to pull them up again. I used caution and got away with it once on the big ring, but wished I had had another chance at it and decided to leave it alone.

The kit comes with a strong smelling adhesion cleaner and a little scouring pad and couple of push stick for seating the rings.

I wasn’t about to scruff up the dash wish the scouring pad and I used the strong cleaner with caution.

The padded push sticks were handy although I pushed so hard I broke one of them, and the five pieces of extra double sided tape, I didn’t find a use for either.

I used a diamond file on some small burrs inside and out on the flat stainless rings.

The rings are pretty wide and give kind of an old school, Stewart Warner gauge look, and the polished stainless cove pieces look like chrome and add a lot of bling to the dash, giving it a fresh new look!

Cheap and Cheesy? Will if you don’t own a Prowler and glance at the dash with the new kit, it looks high tech with a touch of old school, adding a lot of eye appeal and giving it a whole new fresh look.

As with any option or mod, beauty being in the eye of the beholder, and comparing the before and after shots and bang for the buck, I am very pleased with the overall new look!

Sorry no daylight shots yet. Can't wait to get it out into the sun!

Thanks John,

great description and valuble because of its honesty . I like the look and can't help wonder what it would look like on a black car. Obi's are nice, but I don't think they are $250 nice, but thats just my opinion.
the most important thing for me owning a Prowler is making mine distinctive... one of a kind...these little things like what John does keep the heart beating..

good work ...:tu:

Did you remove the dash from the car to install and if you didnt, do you think it would have made the install easier? Nice job though...looks hard to do if you dont have a lot of patience (and skinny fingers...lol) -Buddy

No problem, easy mod to do and the price is right, about $.58 and a little work. If you get in a jam, just yell.
