Hey - jimbo made a comment about in 20 years the prowler being worth 200K, but he'll be on his 6th engine. Which makes me ponder the question, where will your cat be ??

easy answer...
if i win the lottery..... she will be getting the v10...
and the "no can do " answer won't be acceptable..I suppose a crashed Viper would be the donor.
If I'm still poor ( more likely ) she will be rebuild with a bit of beef...headers, NOS... that would be it.

I don't think I will go overboard, but I will definitely beef it up some.

I hear you ... I'd love to do the 5.0, but I heard that the cost on that is over 20K ... speed would be nice, but not for 4 times the price.

The engine is relatively easy to tweak, but what about the rest of the drive train? I like the fact that I can jump in the kat and go anywhere and not have to worry about taxing any of the components.

Someone said the trany can't handle over 400 hp, at least not for long....
a set of headers and a shot of nitrous when you need to pass on the right... 8)

...my first trip to CAAP was just after I bought my first Kat in December 98....one of the engineers talked with my buddy and I at length about the drivetrain in these cars....their opinion was the engine wouldn't take much additional HP in the bottom end and the tranny was the next weak spot in the driveline...their biggest fear was people destroying the drivetrains looking for more power....
...we were there on semi-official business (I wasn't) and Tom Gale even gave us the keys to his 99 Yelo Kat to drive that afternoon...it wasn't stock and we had a blast cruising around Detroit that afternoon in a one off Kat that would smoke the tires at will....later in the day, we met the gang for lunch and traded Kats with them...we had a new 2000 silver Kat for the rest of our visit that day...

Nice story. Like hearing things like that. Yeah, I guess a 75 shot is the best bang for the buck and probably safest thing to do.
Unless you have the bucks to go the V8 route, where they replace the rear end also. But I have NO CLUE what kind of money you're talking there. Can you imagine driving this thing with a clutch and 5-speed or even paddles on the steering wheel ?? :) that would be fun.

there would also be some work to do on the weight distribution with a change of drivetrain...
the stock car is 49/51 %, 51% of the weight being rear of center...
Modifications would have to be done to keep the ratio close. to much weight on the front would cause a suspension nightmare. to much in the rear would make high speeds interesting.
what you gain may be more than what you lose.

Trying to keep my 97 ALL original. It's not going to well so far.
Will probably rebuild to factory specs.
