Brian, it is powered by a 110 house-current Elec Motor that powers a hydraulic pump that activates steel cables to raise the lift.
Wish the technology for this was available 20 years ago when I REALLY could have used it. But, I'm very happy with it. :tu: A Great Tool if you have the ceiling space..
