Thank you for taking a look at this great auction item. MOTOPORTER is offering you the chance to bid on and win this authentic historic racing coupe.
Found by me in long term storage in Sweden and imported into the USA in 2006, the car was restored to racing condition, and finished in 2007, in time to be presented back on track at the 2007 Monterey Historic Automobile races at Laguna Seca Raceway. The known history on this car is as follows.
It was built in December of 1968 and is officially a 1969 model BMW 2800 CS.
It was used as a factory test car for 5 months until April of 1969. It has been owned since by BMW Ende, Munich Germany, Rudolph Zobl, Munich, Manfred Lenz, Konigssee, Austria, Klaus Rath, Neuwide, Germany, SA Stark, Stockholm, Sweden and by me, in that order.
I have the wagenpass issued to the car for the 1977 FIA season. It lists the car as 1977 BMW CSL and was configured then for Gr. 2 competition. It remains in that trim and configuration now.
The car was treated to a rotisserie restoration by me. Stripped of all parts, the original paints (many coats) were carefully feathered and photographed before being stripped. Paint layers showed the car was originally Chamonix white, confirmed by BMW. It was then presented in blue with a dark blue racing stripe. I would call the colors Fijord blue with a large center stripe in Atlantic blue. The next paint scheme was lime green, more intense in color than golf green, with red white and blue stripes. This is the paint scheme shown in the 1977 Wagenpass and all pictures of the car from the 1977 and 1978 seasons. The car was then painted Orange with green and white stripes which was as it was 'found' in 2006.
The car is fitted with 3.5 litre six cylinder. Weber carburettors. Getrag CR5 gearbox. Coil adjustable suspension. Period correct presentation of a fast and fun coupe. Current style BBS three piece wheels for safety, with a set of original drop centers included for display if you wish.
Aluminum doors, hood and trunk. Perspex side and rear windows.
All safety equipment is current and the car complies with all racing organization safety standards, while maintaining its unquestioned originality.
This is the earliest known BMW coupe built for racing.
Car is actively raced and is entered for the 2009 Coronado Speed Festival in September if the new owner wishes to race there.
Car is sold as is. Buyer to arrange pick up and shipping. I am happy to assist in anyway and to anywhere in the world.
FIA Heritage Certificate Application is complete and ready to submit.
