Please read down this thread for this project information....
If I needed 400 hi-res pictures of Prowlers, do you think that this rag tag bunch of bad apples could find 25 people that could come up with 16 nice Prowler photos each ?
I know I have a few nice ones and I know TUIVC can come up with a couple dozen....
If we can do it..
This would be an awesome item I know everyone would want and it is not expensive...
16 shots each..... whos interested ?
If i get enough interest, i'll fill in the details,

ok...
thats enough interest for me, time to open the bag...
We can make a photo DVD with 400 hi-res pictures....
there is custom transition between pictures, like fade in and out , slide in, dissolve.. ect.
They are displayed for 10 seconds so it will take 66 minutes to go through the 400 pictures....
It comes with background music....
It comes with a custom DVD case showing a cover picture and 2 pictures on the back.
I used all the calendar pictures to try it out and it is very cool.....
Our cost is $19.95 each plus shipping,
There is no minimum quantity to buy....
$4 each to the site and a bit for shipping should come in around $27....
no obligation to buy....this looks like win, win, win to me...
What does everyone think ?

Interesting idea. How abt adding:
1. Videos (of Kats or Events), most digital cameras take video anyways
2. Not sure how the slide show works, but would be interested in a section dedicated to apperance and underhood mods

I think DC could come up with 400 high res pics that we'd all like to have on DVD - 66 minutes to go through - LOL - about 60 minutes more than necessary - LOL
(I'd gladly donate some pics of kats)

Maybe it could be used as a screen saver?

We can arrange the photos in any order we want.... I thought if we had 25 different people with 16 pictures each we would alternate them so that your Kat would come up on the screen every 25th shot... this would be a good mix.
Video is not offered as an option with this printer, and truthfully, I would sooner stick to the photos.... If we get to fancy, it will excede my abilities real quick....
Maybe we can do one later with just video.....
As you will see on the Calendars, i have not used the word Prowler or logo's of any type.. this keeps the DC police away from the dreaded licensing issues that seem to pop up elsewhere....
Simple and easy works for me......
its a beautiful time of the year especially if you live in an area that has the autum colors.... lets take lots of large file size photos and be ready in case we get the go ahead....
please express your interest in participating in this project by posting here.
once we get 20 confirmed, I will start assembling the project... we don't have to get 400, that is the maximum....300 would work... but really, lets go Big on this one..

remember, we have no obligation to buy any, and don't have a minimum amount that must be ordered....win, win, win,
every picture must have a Prowler in it.....it would be cool to get some multiple Kat shots...
post anytime to report your progress..

Agreed - last pic is my favorite too. Jim, maybe if you keep a spray bottle of water with you. I think that tire would have looked much sharper if you would have done spray water on it so that it looked black. (love the pics, just constructive criticism ;))

Yes - you know - you should take a BUNCH of pics during fall, I bet you can find certain locatoins where the leaves mimic the colors in the flames, which would make for some GREAT shots.

if the weather is nice I may travel to Cape Breton for a cruise.

I have a question for those in the know....
Do we have to go through Shutterfly on this project ?
Is it possible to make a decent DVD with multiple pictures, music, transitions between pictures, the same as what Shutterfly offers ?
I know that Powerpoint can do something like this....
any suggestions ?

Who is it that does all that stuff on the "other side" ... ask him, Dan Pena, right?
halicat
11-10-2006, 09:58 AM
Maybe Dreamer will jump in on this...
he knows alot about this kind of stuff.
Dan knows his stuff, but is very protective of his work, and lets face it, he's not signed up here so likely not interested in helping a site compete against a site that he advertizes on...
if we could burn our own DVD, maybe we can get $4 each for the site and keep the sell price below $10....Shutterfly would cost us $20 each plus the $4 plus the shipping...
The problem with DVD's is that anyone can buy one, and burn off 100
Dreamcast18
11-10-2006, 07:23 PM
Its pretty straight forward using Nero. No need for shutterfly. It will do the exact same thing.
To ensure a 'limited' run, the DVDs should be burnt with LightScribe individually. Numbered/Serialized.
The only catches are:
1. DVD covers, the blank covers are readily available, someone needs to have access to a laser color or photo color printer to make them.
2. Logo/DVD/DVD Cover design that is to be printed/lasered onto the front of the DVD.
- I have no problems burning and printing the covers. But will need to check on the cost of materials. I'm not artist, so I can't design logos/covers/etc.

Lightscribe disks look great, I use them all of the time. But they take about 20-25 minutes each to "print". I will be glad to help on the project if needed. I'll see what pictures I can come up with.
Just a thought..... If someone knows someone in the printing business, could we do a "Kat-A-Day" desk calendar? That would be cool. I could put it next to my Dilbert calendar.

Kev...
we need all the help we can get on all the projects..... I really like the idea of the Kat a Day desk calendar...
I have about 140 Prowler pictures saved on Shutterfly towards the DVD, snoman has sent me a bunch and I have added a few of my own favorites.
I've kind of let the project slip as of late... but think we should de-fib this puppy and get it going again.....The Kat a Day item would be awesome for our store...
I wonder where something like this can be printed....
Anyone know ?

I have a friend in the printing business giving me an estimate on quantities of 100, 250, and 500 day calendars. I'll let everyone know how the numbers look and we can see if this is even an option.

If it were possible to package the DVD with the 365 kat-a-day desk calendar....
that would be a great combination...

FYI
My internet has been down at home most of yesterday and I haven't been able to get to any of the emails you all have sent to me... I did get on this morning at 5:30am for a couple minutes. If there is anyone waiting for replys from me please be patient... we just had a big snow storm here & all the communication lines are messed up...... my 1 hour drive home last night took me 2 1/2 hours....

We should be hearing from AC soon regarding the sample DVD I had Shutterfly send him as one of the prizes for out Nascar thread.....
He's been having some difficulties with his DVD player, but Santa brought him a new one, so we should be getting some feedback from him soon.
This was just a test sample about 22 minutes long with 140 photos of prowlers.... We can probably make a real classy product with a few different songs instead of the one that Shutterfly offers at a much better price...
lets not let this die guys...

Jimbo - got to watch the sample DVD,,,,,finally,,,,,,,thanks.
That one piece of music, ran over and over,,,,about drove me up the wall.
Needs multiple tunes,,,,,,,60's/70's or something. Imo,,,,,it needs pictures of the owners also,,,tied to their individual cars. Then,,,,run the pictures in sequence >> picture of owner[s] and then the car [all pics], and finish with the owner[s] picture again. This would make the project geared more to being more personal,,,,,tieing the people to their ride. To be honest,,,,without moving, movie video footage and no pictures of the owners,,,,,,it would be like looking at your neighbor's snapshot album. One viewing would suffice,,,,and would end up in the dust collecting, stack rack. You want something that you can take out every four, six months to watch, and bring something back to you. Probably not what you wanted as a review,,,but honest. There is much potential there,,,but needs to have more attention to thought provoking needs and enjoyment.
I may be wrong? Who else has viewed a copy? What are their opinions? If you want me to,,,I can delete this post. Don't want to piss anyone off!! Email me is so desired.

Thanks AC,
great review....You have the only copy, I have veiwed it on the Shutterfly site but don't have a copy...you were the test subject..lol
I 100% agree on everything.. especially the music issue.... I think is has a great deal of potential but maybe as something that can be produced on a home computer where there is more control of images and sound.
as it exists now, it would probably be cool to run at a car show with the sound turned off, but can't see it being watched over and over, unless you put it on at a get together not to intended to watch, just running in the background, with the music off...
please leave your post up.... others may be able to work out some bugs help bring this concept to reality....
Thanks a bunch....:tu:

As far as songs go, not sure what you're looking for, but I've got a stray cats CD, that seems real old school hot rod type of songs. I kind of laugh listening to their title song "Stray Cats" when driving the prowler. Especially since that's kind of what our group is. I listen to everything from AC/DC back in black to Kid Rock Cocky to Stray Kats to Lou Bega's Mambo #5 when I'm cruisin.

I have a Stray Cats CD as well and listen to it all the time in the Kat.....great stuff.... Born to be Wild by Steppenwolf is another one of my favorites and VooDoo Child by Hendrix.... most listened CD in my Prowler is Motley Crue..... Kick start my Heart..........YEAH BABY !
:nana2
It would be cool for everyone to submit their own choices in music for their own DVD..... thats a bit beyond my capabilities....
