What were u thinking? Something for the Men's Lounge? hahah..vibration is coming from the 2-speed power buffer SkanKat got to use during the demo..
Well, today was Cruise for Cancer thingie..we didn't register cuz a friend was visiting..but he missed his flight and we suddenly had some free time. Mike Philips was nice enought to let us do a last minute crash @ Meguiars workshop. Today was for the SRT (Dodge Neon with a Mitsu Turbo) crowd so we figured we'll be 'fine' with those folks...man..those econo compact cars..hahaha... and damn....those SRT folks are young! teens to twentysomethings?
The black kat's late entrance into the venue 'silenced' the crowd....most never seen a Prowler before.
The only Brand that the Black Prowler trusts!

And Vbbbrrrrrrrrrrr...
http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n275/dreamcast18/McG/MG009.jpg
On a sidenote..unlike the Prowler crowd, the NRT crowd mostly cares abt their engine mods...not paint care. Very different from the Prowler crowd (Don't we tend to think we care about everything? haha). No-one wanted to try out the power tools cept for SkanKat and the demo car owner.
For folks outside LA (Dustis..allo?) who visits LA...let us know! Meguiars has classes on Wednesday and Saturdays; its a great place to learn how to keep our kats nice and glossy shiny!

Isn't that class amazing? I know this is your second time through,. I know I'll go next time the Prowlers get together, too . . there's so much material covered and a lot to try and remember. I bought the buffer, so let me know if you'd like to use it some weekend. It's amazing how well it works! :tu:

Pumpkin, that's a good idea. I wonder if there's any videos or anything for those of us that live on the East Coast that can't exactly take a class in california.
Did you see the pics (I think it was on POA) of soemone in Texas that did a detail job in like 3 hours and eliminated all swirl marks and litterally looked like glass ?
I'd LOVE to learn how to do that.

I might have to take up the offer! Mike told me how to get rid of the water stains and scratches from the previous owner which I could not get out using Scratch-X. I'll buy the supplies...was so tempted to get the buffer but I wanted a multi-voltage one.

Do the 5-step Meguiars process. It works great! There's so much to learn, that's why SkanKat and I will be headed there on one of the Wednesdays to learn more (those are open houses where u can use ANY of their products and be coached on using them).
Use the Quik or Speed Detailer after u come back from a trip to get rid of the contaminates before they bond to your paint.
check these useful tips out:

Hey Randy,
3 hours is not a good gauge. Mike Philips said that its all about the condition of the car. Take for example, Norm's Pumpkin is always clayed and waxed..u won't even need more than an hour to make it shine.
However a car that has only be waxed alot but not clayed, might have contaminants 'waxed' and sealed into the paint, thus needing more time to strip the wax, clay out the contaminants and buff out the scratches.
The 'problem' with such classes is that they 'train' ur eyes to see stuff u never see before..thus..u end up buying all the goodies to fix the scratches, swirls etc.
They also have roadshows (there was one in FL: http://www.meguiarsonline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12567)
the new NXT Spray On Wax is pretty impressive too..and u're right, you have to see them demo it to know how to use them properly..the instructions on the back of anything just doesn't cut it. I'll email Mike to see if he has any videos.
Updated: Guys, get the DVD here!

You guys better be careful, cause now this site isn't just a bunch of loudmouths, but now we actually get useful advice also ??
Oh boy - could the tide be turning? :)
THANKS for the Advice, I will definately be checking these resources out.
I use Maguiars products, and tryed the NXT, but never clayed or or compounded. Compounding your prowler clearcoat just scares the CRAP out of me.

Pumpkin, soon as I get a little free time, I'll get some closeup photos of the car, and get your input on what products and processes I should go through :)
Claying I KNOW I need to do (at a minimum) from what I've read though.
THANKS

The buffer Meguiars sells is a private labled version of the Porter-Cable. It's amazing how well it works with the right compound.

I know! I felt the same way! It used to be with the old paint systems, that you could remove a tiny amount of surface paint with a rubbing compound to get at the "good" paint beneath it. What took me some time to get through my thick skull, is that compounding clear coat is the same thing! You are removing a thin layer of your clear coat because the scratches and swirls you're seeing are not in you paint, but in the clear. You just have to take your time and look at your paint in the right light to see if you've removed the swirls, then move to the next section. When I attended this class, someone volunteered their VERY swirled Orange Kat as the demonstrator. You should have seen the before and after of the hood (They did half of the hood first so you could compare it with the other side). Man, what a difference! It was like glass and it took all of twenty minutes to do the hood. If you go to the Meguiars site, go to the "Detailing 101" powerpoint and you can go through the same class we went through up to the "hands on" part. I bought all the products they use and the Dual Action buffer for less than what it would have cost to have one detail done. Well worth it.

Scott you are so right. Some may not know this but when you get an item clear coated they color sand it after it dries. Color sanding is with sand paper,1500 to 2000 grit, with plenty of water.. They color sand the whole car.

Scott hit the nail on the head. I STILL can't get through my thick skull that clear-coat is basically a clear paint and can be buffed out like old paint. Just scares me to death to think of that, and I'd be so afraid that I'd buff through the clearcoat and into the actual color paint.
Well, probably won't be a couple months till I have the time to dedicate to it, but when I do, I'm going to be here asking for help :)

Q. How do u know if you car needs claying?
A. With a CLEAN hand, run ur hand (palms down) across the paint..there should be no sound..since it should be a smooth surface..if it squeeks or sound like sandpaper...time to clay!
Claying is easy and safe.If you still have a problem I will clay your car. Its not a long proccess and the results are amazing.

OK - not sure if this was discussed here or on POA, but I need info on detailing. Specifically, i have a cheap lil $20 buffer that I've used, and now I want to do things right. Especially since my sister asked what I want for christmas.
Should I get the 2 speed buffer, and which one? I read using foam versus cloth bonnet.
And where should I get clay and waxing items. My sister is asking me what to get, and this is a good chance fo rme to get a xmas present I want.
