U.S. seeks forfeiture of cash, property
Wednesday, September 06, 2006
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
After seizing more than $300,000 in cash and savings bonds in an investigation into illegal gambling in Washington County, the federal government yesterday moved for the forfeiture of all of it.
Agents with the Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation Division seized the money in July. The cash was found at 121 Fort Cherry Road in McDonald, as well as in a safe deposit box at a local bank.
The investigation of Allan R. Campbell, also known as Mike Campbell, and Edward Lazorchak centers around the selling of thousands of $100 tickets every three months. The winning numbers were determined by the Pennsylvania Lottery's daily number.
According to court filings, Mr. Campbell and Mr. Lazorchak, along with at least three others, have been running the business since at least 1994 from the Fort Cherry Road address and from 1000 Fawn Valley Drive in Canonsburg.
In that 12-year period, the U.S. attorney alleges, they have generated thousands of dollars in illegal proceeds.
Also seized in the most recent forfeiture action was a 1975 Lincoln Continental titled to Mr. Campbell.
Back in June, in a related action, the U.S. attorney's office moved for the forfeiture of the actual property at 121 Fort Cherry Road, as well as for monies in two different bank accounts and seven vehicles, including a 1997 Plymouth Prowler, a 2004 Chevy SSR truck, a 2004 Ford Thunderbird convertible, and a 2001 Chevy Corvette.
