Well, a couple of weeks ago after installing a "Windows Vista" update my hard drive on my Laptop died ......... it was a hassle but when this morning after yet another "Windows Vista" update my computer at work refused to work anymore it REALLY pissed me off :smflame:

Anyone got similar troubles with Vista ?

Of course the DELL Warranty expired so I tried all the little tricks such as getting it
started in 'safe mode' etc. - NOTHING ........... took it to a local Computer Shop and
the guy told me that he doesn't even carry Vista anymore because it was SOOO F#cked up !

Anyhoo, anyone of y'all running Vista make SURE you do regular Data Backups or you'll
be Windows F#cked as well !!

I have heard that Vista is a pain in the a$$.

Even with XP...you should always be up to date on your patch and security downloads.

Good luck on fixing your problem Dusti.

My desktops at home and at work are still on Windows XP. My laptop is on Vista, but I back everything up to an external hard drive. No issues so far with the laptop. It is a little over a year old.

never liked Vista...nor Office 2007...necessary evils? Windows 7 is supposed to fix alot of Vista's flaws...many positive reviews of Windows 7.

that said...run Win XP Pro with VirtualPC..and u'll be all set for a while.

Your gonna think I'm nuts but remove the hard drive and stick it in the freezer for 24 hours or so. I always seal the drive in a plastic bag first, probably doesn't matter. Then remove from the fridge, let it get back to room temp and try to start the drive in safe mode. Sometimes you get enough life out of it to recover any data you had on the drive. Sounds like a disk drive failure unrelated to vista.

If you want to bring the drive to Branson, I have a cable that allows to drive to be hooked up externally to see if any data on the drive can be read. Just let me know if I need to bring the cable.
