Not wanting to hijack Cliff's For Sale thread; so am starting a new one:

Cliff, how hard was it to get the Chrome Inlay off for rechroming?

Buddy: May or may not be related, but what I heard is that Gary uses some sort of masking for the front suspension chroming due to the bushing being irreplaceable.

In short, portions of parts that should not be chromed can be masked from chroming processing.

Again, I'm no expert on this stuff...but here's something that might be applicable to the above method of masking:

DC, I wanted to know how they removed the Chrome Inlay in the Shift Knob. I had thought about how to do it but didnt want to bend or kink the Inlay trying to get it off of the Knob.
And you are probably right. If they can chrome the Suspension parts without disassembling the Bushings then that would be the way to go.

Buddy: that was my 'kinda possibly' related comment - that if the chrome overlay was not removed, then possibly some kind of masking was applied on the rest of the shifter..again..i know jack

I was thinking about having Gary rechrome mine. He said that the plastic chrome piece is put on with double back tape. Also,Gary said you can remove it carefully without damaging it and he will rechrome it.

Sorry to steer this thread even more off course, but the shift knob chrome insert peels off pretty easy with some careful prying with a small screwdriver and fingernails. I popped one off in a minute.
