i just had the unfortunate experience of going over my car insurance as i am planning a trip down to florida. i have Geico and they allow me to effectively turn on and off coverage when i am going to florida on the vehicles i have down there. heres the rub.
why do i need to have seperate policies for each vehicle. i only drive one at a time. why cant they simply charge me the rate for the highest vehicle and then place an annual milage limitation. i dont put but few miles on any of them. of course this is not in their best interest, but it seems to me that i am paying for unnecessary converage on vehicles that only get driven a few miles a year.
someone smarter than me please chime in an tell me if i am wrong. insurance is such a rip on in general that it just seems that i am paying way too much for far too little actual risk on their part. maybe mike spence can chime in here....
ok.. enough of the rant...... for now...

We don't use Geico but our insurance allows us to turn coverage on & off as well and it's still high as hell in my opinion.

Why would you carry insurance with a company that you have no agent with? A independent agent has many companies and can place you with a company that fits the way you need to have your coverage!

Mine also allows me to turn it on and off.
But I'm with Ed , can't drive all the vehicles I have at the same time.
Why isn't there a umbrella policy offered somewhere?

You should be able to make the change then make another change and it will be pro-rated for the day by day coverage charge some companies don't let you delete all but comp on all the autos, buy the way I think your a high risk:rll::rll::rll:

You should have at least a million dollar umbrella they only cost a few hundred a year

My insurance company allows me to "lay-up" vehicles for 3 months out of the year and pay only 60% of the premium. My vehicles are all on one policy. My Collector cars are on specialty insurance with limits of 2500 miles per year and they are all on one policy as well. My wife is my insurance agent, so she handles all of this. I don't ask, I just pay the premiums!

I think that because of the high number of autos the let him put them on a commeral policy rated on the highest valued auto,it sounded very fair when Larry told me about it. To find a underwriter to allow this is probally not going to happen very often unless you happen to be a large account jmo well Larry?

If you have an agent, you have brokerage fees and these can be steep. you can go direct to any insurance company it's self and get direct coverage without any agent. Think about this agents only make money on the brockerage fees. Any agent that tells you different is telling you CRAP. Agent=broker=brokerage fees...

Yes I have a agent (myself) other states have brokerage fees in Michigan we cannot charge a brokerage fee, we get paid a commission (and earn it I might add) so will you trust a local person to help you deal with the insurance company or have the knowledge and confidence to do that on your own?

OFF TOPIC: on the topic of broker..
we had a friend who was our Allstate insurance broker. Before him, we had Progressive and he was able to do better than the rates Progressive provided.
In addition, Progressive did not have home or life insurance; so going with our broker friend saved us quite a bundle (better than AAA when we compared)...he might have waived his fee/commission..we don't know.
the best thing having a broker friend was he was able to help use chase down Allstate on our claims...that said..now that he's gone and our account transferred to someone we do not know - not sure if we would get this kind of service.

No problem it is a little different in Michigan the main difference is a broker can charge a fee to write the policy and we can't here but all in all I still see folks that have problems when they have no other person to help out at claim time besides to go hire a independent adjustment service which seams to me to be totally wrong. I have gone to bat for my customers many time before last year I paid a claim and the company didn't pay me back for 6 weeks but I kept a good customer, i think you will find more often than not with a agent or broker:tu:
