I had spoken to Bob Haisler at Miller Motors in Wisconsin a few months ago about buying a Max Care extended warranty, but at the time I felt it was just too expensive. I bought my '01 silver just about a year ago from the original owner, Ted Miles of Ted Miles Chrysler Jeep in Atascadero, California. (Great guy by the way. Really worked with me)

When I called Bob Haisler earlier this year, I was hoping that the cat had not yet been put into service since Ted used it for his company vehicle and it still had dealer plates on it. I was disappointed to learn that, although Chrysler was showing me as the only owner, they had an in-service date of January 22nd, 2001, because Ted Miles Chrysler had performed preventative maintenance and recall work on the kat. The way the Max Care warranty is priced is entirely dependent on the in-service date and rather or not you're purchasing the policy while the original factory warranty is in effect. Well, my factory warranty was long gone according to Chrysler, so there was a significant conversion fee that would need to be paid if I purchased the extended warranty. So, as I said before, I decided it was too expensive.

Well, after reading about the various "personality traits" of the car such as broken front shocks, valve train noise, and cracked window regulators, (plus the personal experiences some friends of mine have had with their kats) I really began to obsess over everything that could go wrong and what was it going to cost when it eventually DID go wrong.

And, what really motivated me, was having owned the kat for a year, I am positively sure I will own this car for many years to come. So, my car right now has 8,957 miles on it. My new warranty has a $100.00 per covered repair deductable and covers the car bumper-to-bumper, including a free loaner car, for the next five years or 50,000 miles. Since I only put about twenty-five hundred miles a year on the car (I bought it with 6,400 miles on it) my kat is covered through August of 2011. What a great feeling!

The cost? $2,035.00 or about $400.00 a year. Heck, an altenator or shock replacement would cost that much.

I really encourage anyone who is worried about future repair costs (which are bound to go up as Prowler specific parts become more scarce) to give Bob a call. He's a great guy and still charges Prowler enthusiasts just $50.00 over the cost of the policy. His number is 800-824-1784.

That doesn't sound bad at all. $2,000 for a complete warranty? I had inquired about one from someone before my warranty expired (about 5 months ago), and found that the problem was that I couldn't get the warranty unless the person who gave the warranty physically inspected the car. So I'd be very interested in knowing if I can have it inspected by a local dealer, and purchase from your guy.

Call Bob, He works for a Chrysler dealership in Wisconsin and has sold a lot of these warranties. AC in AZ and Dreamcast in CA both bought from him.

You know, I had read on the other site in an archived thread that you had to buy the Maxcare policy within four years of the date of service. Well, I'm five years, 8 months past that point. But, Bob never told me of that restriction and I frankly forgot to ask. I truly believe that the premium modification I paid covers the fact that the car was out of warranty. After all, some people have told me that when they extended their coverage while their car was still under warranty, the additional coverage was only about $800.00. Bob also didn't say anything about the car needing to be inspected. I paid in full with my Visa over the phone, so hopefully the policy will go through. He's mailing me some paperwork and he said Chrysler would have the warranty in my hands within a week. I'll just hold my breath until then!

Yeah Scott, I'm curious how they accomplish that. I mean mine was less than a year out of warranty when I first looked, but now it's over so I thought I couldn't get it. If I could get what your saying ... sounds very tempting. But I just wonder, how do they deal with "pre-existing" conditions if no inspection?

Please keep us posted on how it turns out. If all's good with it, I'll give him a call. Also, there are different levels of the maxcare warranty, is this for the one that covers everything ??

SkanKat's orange was out of warranty when we added the Maxcare750. Maxcare 750 is the BEST..it covers everything EXCEPT anything made of rubber! All warranty comes with immediate car rental! Very nice!

For the tiers of coverage, check it out here:

BTW, there was no INSPECTION when we purchased the warranty. The extended warranty has already paid of itself :tu:

I bought the Pre-Owned Maximum Care for 5 years, 50,000 miles. (It has a 75,000 mile override cap. So, as an example, if my car had 25,000 miles on it right now, the coverage is for an additional 50,000 miles or 75,000 total. If my car had 50,000 miles already on it, the coverage would still only be good up to 75,000 miles.)

DC, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you have the same policy as far as covered systems, but it was called a 750 when you bought it because it was not four years past the year of manufacture, so they gave you a 7 year or 50,000 mile policy. Does that make sense?

I called Bob just now to get clarification, but had to leave a voicemail. He may not work on Sundays. So, it may be tomorrow before I get back to this thread with a definitive answer.

OK, I just spoke to Bob . . .It's pretty much as I thought. I did get the Pre-Owned MaxCare policy that, as Bob put it, "covers the car from bumper to bumper, every nut and bolt". Bob said the confusion comes from the fact that there are two MaxCare policies: One for new cars and one for pre-owned cars. The pre-owned policy carries a converison fee charge so it is much more expensive than the other policy. The new car policy can be purchase while the car is still under warranty and before it hits the 4 year in-service date. There is no inspection necessary to get either policy, but you do have to keep track of your maintenance receipts so you can show that you have cared for the vehicle in accordance with the Chrysler recommended maintenance schedule. Hopefully that answers your questions, but if not, Bob has asked that I extend an invitaiton to call him so he can go over the particulars of the policy with you.
