I'd wager it probably is a stick-on. 3M backing
that's heated up with a blowdryer, when it
starts to bubble a tad, line it up & peel it off.
Works quite well, really having done a couple
of dash kits on my 2 PTs. Make sure the area
is clean with an alcohol rub first.
I'd like to try the red carbon fiber dash kit in my cat
one of these days.
You get the whole dash kit there Bob?

I like it..........:tu::tu:
You guys can try carbon fiber fabric instead of this stick-on thing. I've used it on my car and I absolutely love it. It's $35 for a yard (which is quite a bit). You can either have an upholsterer wrap whatever you want or you can wrap it yourself. All you need is 3M 90 spray glue and some patience. It's very pliable.
I wrapped the interior trim of my car and love it.

That shifter is different than my 01 Kat
I got rid of the chrome suround and replaced it with a '99 bezel and had it painted black to match the rest of car and of course the custom shifter.

I'm not 100% sure because I'm not sure that she recogized me (goatfalls on forums-bobskatok on ebay), but I think it was Marji, is her spouse names Ted?

I have to say that this is one of the best looking imitation Carbon fiber applications I have ever seen. I would be interested in more information on that one!

If you're talking about my post, I could send you a small sample of the fabric.

I still love the Prowler but it can't be my only car. It's just not practical enough for that. Prices are really low, but I'm trying to save up to buy my first property.

Bob
Just to clarify you did not buy it directly from us. Marji was selling some of her extra stash recently. We got out of the Shimmer business several years ago.

Yup! That's my M5. They're pretty cheap nowadays (mid 20s for a nice example) Maintenance is what gets you, though. But, so far, knock on wood. I will drive this thing until the wheels fall off. Then, I'll put them back on and keep driving it.
Speaking of wood, the original trim used to be wood (fake wood), which pissed me off in the daylight in contrast with the car's color. The carbon fiber fabric has a nice matte texture to it and it's not "rice" like the glossy carbon fiber. And unlike the other glossy stuff, this one invites you to run your fingers through it. It doesnt stain, it's water proof, and pretty cheap ($35 per yard).
Don't get me wrong, though. I think the glossy carbon fiber looks amazing in sportier cars (Ferraris, etc), but I dont think it belongs in a 4-door sedan.

drive the M5 hard to avoid the carbon buildup problem :burnout
drive the M5 hard to avoid the carbon buildup problem :burnout
Ahhh, I see that you're familiar with some of the issues!
The carbon buildup is independent of how hard you drive the car, though. It doesnt build up in the engine, but in the secondary air system (this comes on only when the car starts cold to help it come up to normal operating temp quicker). The carbon build up clogs the lines but it doesnt affect performance.
This has been shown to happen with all the M5s (and even E38 7-series) regardless of driving habits. Some think it's gotta do with the fuel choice, which might be true. I just get Shell V-power and everything seems fine for now. Broke 85k miles today, actually.
