Hey - I'm running into a dilema here. I originally bought my car as something to drive and have fun with. Something that I could drive the shit out of and 3-4 years later sell it at the lowest depreciation of any car I ever owned. Had fun, and no regrets, maybe buy another and do it again.

But then I decided my Kat was more than that, it's a way of life, a reason to go for a drive, meet friends, etc. Still no problem.

Then came the mods. Gears, Lambo doors, chrome here and there, under hood paint mods, etc. I still want to drive it any nice prowler weather day I can. But now I worry about the insurance and the fact my insurance doesn't cover (I'm guessing) near what it would cost to replace. I'm scared to death that someone rear-ends me or totals me out now. Before I never thought about these things, simply drive it like you stole it.

Anyone else have these change of thoughts about their Prowler? Maybe getting Grundy's at declared value would work. But what happens if I stop by the grocery store for a quick thing or two? well, I only care about totals, so even dings in the parking lot, I wouldn't care about from insurance point of view. Hmm....

Dudes,

Call your insurance company and find out what you are covered for. Each Ins Co does it differently. For us, we have AllState. They cover ALL accessories MOUNTED/INSTALLED in/on the car. The catch?

Make sure you have:

1. Taken pics of all the add ons
2. Have receipts or print outs of their original/replacement costs

GIVE THESE TO YOUR INSURANCE AGENT to file in your insurance folder. That was how they covered my lost weekender and paint damage to the trunk lid.

Hope this info helps.

I have to add value to my policy to declare any mods. My wife is my insurance agent, so she keeps up with the changes. You almost have to insure this cars fore a stated amount unless you are willing to settle for book value.

My 2 cents...I would NOT give your insurance company your original receipts. Copies are good enough for them. I keep all my stuff in my Prowler file folder at home.

Good info DC!!!

I'm going to check the agreed upon value companies and see if I can meet their exclusion guidelines. I don't drive it to work or school, but if its a nice day out, I drive it to wherever, maybe out to dinner or the park, etc. I think the only places that I fear are city roads, I-95, (basically the only places I think it could be totaled on)
