OK - there's a Candy Trailer on Ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1,1&item=150018043728&ih=005&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT

I've been looking for a trailer for my car for quite a while, and recently (3 months ago) bought a purple one thinking 1 of the 36 candy's would not come up for sale. So now what do I do ??

The purple one I bought is perfect, not a mark on it. I of course need to paint it candy (not done yet). Also, I need to put chrome wheels on it (I bought 2 17" rims already, and think 17's are better look than 15's anyhow).

Also, this candy has a chip in it and purple pinstriping. So the question is: Do I want it? and if so, at what price point? Also - shipping from colorado to florida is a consideration. Just looking for some viewpoints ....

You know . . . You're probably better off keeping what you've got.

I don't think the original color of the trailer is what dictates it's value.

In other words, a repainted silver Prowler made to look like a black tie will never be worth what an original, Dr. Ru signed, black tie Prowler is worth.

But, a repainted trailer will still hold a value comparable to any other color trailer, simply because the population of trailers is so much smaller than the population of Prowlers. If you buy the candy red, you'll have to do all sorts of body work to it to repair the chip and remove the pinstriping. Then, at that point, the thing is so small you might as well repaint it to make it perfect again. If you're going to have to do all that, you're dollars ahead just painting the purple.

Just my opinion, but I bet there's a lot of repainted trailers out there, and I would pay just as much for one of them, as I would one that came from the factory already painted to match my car.

Look at it this way, you knew the candy red was scarce, but you still paid full value for the purple trailer and were willing to put more money into it to make it a candy red. Any of us would think that exact same way because we know there'll be no more trailers produced.

I have to agree with Scott on this one...

make the one you have perfect for you.

I am leaning HEAVILY in that direction anyhow, but I wanted to get info from my sounding board to make sure I'm making the proper decision.

(on a lighter note, replaced my belts today ... woo woo got A/C again ... and removed the grill, waiting for the new grill to arrive tomorrow :)

Scott's right. However, if it sells for $3K (unlikely), then its a good buy. The hassle of repainting it and transporting it to FL may not be worth it. If it was right next door, that would be different.

KK: The belts needs to be tighten up after some driving as per the Prowler Tech when he replaced SkanKat's Orange. Otherwise, it WILL get twisted again. Happened to the original owner of the black prowler.

DC, I've learned the hard way. I've had my A/C belts replaced 3 or 4 times from the dealer and I tell them (politely) the proper method to tighten the belts. Each time, after a few days and I "GUN" it, the belt flies off. That's why this time, I'm doing it myself, and doing it right. After the new grill goes on and a nice leisurely ride by the beach, it'll be back in the garage for a "retighten". Thanks ;)

I agree, for let's say $4K, I think I'd consider it, but over that - it's not worth it for me I guess. But let's face reality, it's going to go for much more than that. OK - I'll watch it, but only half-hearted. It just better go above $4K quick so that I don't have to make that ugly decision.

If it goes at a reasonable enough price, remember you can always sell the other.. .whichever suits you!

Dude, does Ransom just have a daily search of anything with "Prowler" in it? And if it is below market value he just snaps it up? I've especially seen him do this on collectibles like puddles (which I'd love to own a set one day, just rather cost prohibitive)

Oh - I agree with you, I think he does too, but he must have one hell of a collection.

I know his reserve will be too high on this, would be a nice thing to have, but for probably $500, that's good MOD money :)

It has been relisted! I think trailers (similar to real estate prices) have reached their peak for now...

I think I ended up being high bidder at $4800.00 when it closed . . .he sent everyone that bid a second chance offer at $5,000.00. I thought about it, but chickened out after thinking about the transportation and repainting costs. Plus, I'm still trying to figure out how to mount that hitch behind my license plate so I can keep my Carlini "J-Lo" rear end :-)

Larry Lord has the scoop on fabricating the hitch into the frame back there and has generously offered to give me some guidence . . I just haven't had time to talk to him yet.

yeah, on hindsight, I'm glad I passed. I have found them as cheap as $4,300 before on ebay. I just have to find time to get the one I have painted.
