I thought seriously about switching out my prop rod years ago, now I am glad I didn't. I would probably have gone back to it by now.

I was looking at folks replacing with 3rd party hood props...too much money. Another advantage with the hood rod is it opens up WIDER!!! Yep! So its alot easier to work on the engine compartment...highly recommended by my local Prowler Tech.

mopardave:Right on! Both our Prowlers have the hood prop problem...it can literally kill u when working on the car. Glad u made the right choice!

Jimbo:Don't worry, I'll start calling in favors reaal soon! haha..

Norm:Not sure whether it comes in chrome. The one I ordered was based on the original part number for the older Prowlers. Check with Randy @ Moparparts. His email is randy@moparpart.com. make sure you mention the ProwlTalk discount.

All right...came back @ 8pm tonight, didn't feel like 'uninstalling' the trailer hitch..so decided to pop the mod cherry and started on the hood prop rod.

Taking a page from Norm, I decided to take pics at each step to remind me where I left the scapel..screw driver..wait..watever..

Disclaimer: The pics are pretty bad..due to low light during the night-install.

Step 1:
Inspect the 3 areas where the installation will cover.

Step 2:
- Screw in the hood prop rod base which is located next to the hood locking latch.
- Install the hood prop rod clip at the right hand side of the hood

Step 3:
- Slide the round plastic cover off at the top of the hood strut.
- Push the top of the hood inwards (toward the inside of the engine bay) to pop it off.
- Slide the rectangular cover off at the base of the hood strut.
- Turn hood strut on its side and remove it.

Step 3:
WALA!

Norm:Jenn did help in the installation. She held up the hood while I worked on the rest of the stuff. She wanted me to make sure you hear this.

Jimbo: Tag on hood rod says 'Made In Canada'

DC, Did you have to put the slot in the radiator support bracket?
My early 99 has the prop rod from the factory but they did away with the hole in the newer models. Just wondering if some of the kats out there got the transition parts (rad support w/ hole, no prop rod but hood shock type supports).

Just a heads up for those interested in the prop rod, check if you have a slot to insert it in the radiator support. Of course a hole/slot can be made!

KK: Nope. No need to make a slot. The radiator support bracket had the slot. U're right, SkanKat's 2001 Orange does not have the slot, but it had the mounting holes on the hood.

Prior to removing the struts, I used the prop rod one one of the latches in the engine bay..worked!

I think I blew it.
I ordered a hood prop for my Prowler. I received the rod (only). didn't know there were (3) part numbers that I had to order. I still need the screws and the clip holder. Do you know of any "work arounds" that I can use?

Thanks,
Ray2

Here u go:

1. 4815796AC Rod Hood

2. 154554 Screw self (x2)

3. J4007456 Clip

The hood rod is the expensive part, so u already saved on that. The others are available @ the Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep dealership for cheap. They cost me less than a dollar.

The installation is real easy. Let me know if you have any problems.

Thanks DC for the quick reply and Thanks for the Welcome, Jim.
I've been droping in on the site from time to time to follow the threads for advice. I've had my Kat for a little less than a year, so I don't enough yet to give any advice. . . but I'm learning. You've all been very helpful. Thanks for the support.
