As some folks knew, the recently Californiarized Black Kat had a weekender which I was intending to sell to a local Kat owner. However, it was stolen and I just did the police report on Saturday. It also took a chuck on paint of the trunk lid..Here's some pictures of the ripped part. More details to follow after the talk with Allstate tomorrow. As Norm said, it's simply unbeliveable...
Not sure if insurance will pay for it...
This is the car with the weekender:

Talked to Allstate today. They allowed my claim of:
1. Weekender
2. Re-paint of trunk lid (guy was surprised that it cost $3.2K to replace when he was going thru the computer database)
After $500 deductible.
They refused my claim of:
1. Dustis Exhaust Tips
2. Transmission Sensors
On the basis that they were not installed and cannot be claimed under personal property (some BS abt automotive parts cannot be claimed under home owner's insurance).
It was slightly better than I expected, but the re-paint part is a pain and losing those exhaust tips was a complete bummer.

Wow DC! That's actually pretty good. Frankly, i'm surprised that it cost $3.2K just to get the trunk lid repainted. However, find a good shop, get it painted and put this behind you.
And, please let me know what shop you use and rather or not you were happy with them. I'm thinking of a new paint scheme for my Silver, and need to find a good shop, too.

Opps..I guess I might have misquote:
1. Trunk Lid itself is $3200 (unpainted) as a part.
2. The repaint they're only paying $380 for it, which is too little cuz it needs blending on the sides. My autoshop is gonna ask for more $$$ from AllState.
3. The 2 Pasadena shops i choose have great recommendations and references. I like on that's in Alhambra, they do an EXCELLENT job, but the neighborhood roads near the Alhambra shop is atrocious..too many potholes. But..its my backup option.

I swear, sometimes I'm such a maroon.
Right, $3.2K to buy new . . . not repaint. Actaully, yeah, $380.00 is too little, especially for Black. Probably the most difficult color to match and apply. Sorry I misunderstood. I was thinking cha-ching there for a minute.
I'll try to concentrate when I read from now on, honest.

I'm still trying to figure out the pics.
:?: How did they get the Weekender off without ruining it?
:?: Is there a better way to secure your Weekender so this doesn't happen again?
:?: Should you document ALL mods to your Prowler with pictures in the event that something of this nature does happen to you?
By the way Dreamcast...sorry some asshole did this to you. :x

TopHip:Sorry, I didn't see the new posting on this forum section.

It should be damaged. The contents were probably what they were after.
Is there a better way to secure your Weekender so this doesn't happen again?
The box is welded on two thread only at the edges. If there's another thread in the middle, that would have strengthened the attachment to the hitch.
Should you document ALL mods to your Prowler with pictures in the event that something of this nature does happen to you?
YES. I was fortunate to have pics of the car b4 the sale, and when I was with Dustis etc. So that helped. I gave all those pics to my Allstate agent for documentation into my insurance folder. So I highly recommend doing that if you have any mods.
IN ADDITION: this is what I found out. Make sure ALL your mods are WELDED or LOCKED down. Insurance DOES NOT COVER anything that is not 'properly' secured/attached to the vehicle. Which is why they did not cover my tranmissions sensors and Dustis Exhaust Tips (they'll weasle out with any loop hole they can..it was a tough fight).

Hopefully Paul...it will be finished by tomorrow! I will then reassemble it on Monday.
Here is the guy that's doing it.
