View Full Version : 07 Ford Mustang Cobra/GT500/SVT-Your Thoughts
Hi All, and thanks for the new Prowler site David.
David, since you are a Ford SVT type, and I like what I have read about the new Ford 07 Cobra, what are your thoughts about the following:
Availability/when should you put your name on a list?
Are you on a list?
Where is the list/SVT dealers only?
If you were to buy, do you think you could buy at MSRP?
What are your overall thoughts about the car?
Thanks, Dave Ridge, Punta Gorda, Florida, 99 Yellow Prowler, 1964 Studebaker Avanti R2, 1940 Ford Coupe w/new Ford crate engine.

That really doesn't seem like a lot for what you would be buying. Then again i'm sure the dealers will get their pound of flesh. Horsepower in the 450 range?

I've heard the price will be in the 40 to 45K range,,,,,,,horsepower under rated for insurance reasons,,,,actually puts out over 500 hp.
Available only to dealers who are SVT/Cobra authorized,,,,,whatever that means,,,,,special techs?
Looks 'bad' to me,,,,,,,,put some sticky tires under it and go racing

Read an article the other day saying it will be around 500 ponies and with after market goodies in the 600hp plus range. Talk about a go fast.

2006 Ford Shelby Cobra GT500
With a supercharged 5.4-liter V8 generating over 450 horsepower and 450 lb.-ft. of torque, the production version of the Ford Shelby Cobra GT500 is set to arrive at dealerships next year as the most powerful factory-built Mustang ever.
The product of a collaboration between Carroll Shelby — who helped design the very first high-performance Mustang back in 1964 — and Ford's Special Vehicle Team (SVT), the GT500 also features a six-speed manual transmission plus an upgraded suspension that includes revised shock and spring rates as well as upgraded stabilizer bars.
Helping keep all the speed in check are big Brembo brakes all around; fourteen-inchers up front, thirteens in the rear. Attached to those brakes are big 19-inch wheels wrapped in big tires.
Inside, a sea of black leather is offset by red leather seat and door panel inserts. The familiar Cobra snake logo adorns the seat backs.
When: On sale in 2006.
Pricing: Expected in the mid-$30K range.

Gary, all of that is good except I bet we would have a tough time finding one under 40 grand. Dealer greed in the beginning.
